A quick question. If I have to fix someone's pc tomorrow is there any way I can ghost the operating system just now (windows XP sp2 ) so that when I go in tomorrow all c need to do is insert a disk and it will all be copied over without an installation procedure.

I would also like it to connect straight to the internet and go. I know the type of modem the pc has it's one of these ones http://tinyurl.com/dzdjl . Also there is no way that they are going to change operating systems etc. The type of computer is a standard midi tower with a 15" lcd monitor and standard pc parts, not very specific but if you know the monitor and modem type there should surely be a way.

If you use the likes of stomp mybackup, you can backup the whole partition to cd's or dvd's and run it in the bootup and I actually think they use ghost as their restore program! And I'm sure if you look in the "right place" you'll find the full version!

On your second problem, if it's plug and play, connect up and enter your IP address and other information and you should connect up no problem, or else you will need the cd with the drivers!

You shouldn't even think about this unless the machine you intend to install and make a copy of the installation is VERY close in hardware configuration to the target machine. There are other methods better for this.

Do a search on google for Unattended Windows XP installations. There's a wealth of information out there on how to do them, and they should work regardless of hardware configuration. I used them all the time when I did some work for my high school so I didn't have to sit there and re-enter the information every time.

In summary, don't ghost unless the hardware is the same.
