I just bought a new Dell computer that has a CD/DVD-RW. I tried to burn a CD but it will not burn.

I used 3 different programs(Easy CD Creator, Nero and Fireburner) but none of them will work. My OS is XP.

whaddya mean will not burn? Does it give a reason, like buffer underun or something? maybe your burner is too fast for the common disk. please elaborate.

I mean that when I try to burn music files to make a CD, it says that it burned completey and successfully but when I put in my stereo or to check to see if it burned, the CD itself is still blank

sometimes brandnew things break. like during shipping. or perhaps this one slipped past inspection. Talk to your tech support.

Does it play on your computer. if yes, some stand alone player does not support long file name!

if it won't burn, you need to use an accelerant like gasoline or acetone. being semi demonic entities, windows boxes are very hard to destroy

(seriously though if you are using rw's, they won't play on most home stereos, also some players won't play some brands of cdr--if you are making mp3 data discs, they will only play on some dvd players, and almost no home or car players)

yep uninstall everything and get nero

there is a system service that needs to be running and might not be--IMAPI CD burning COM support

find it in control panel/administrative tools/component services-- it needs to be on "manual" or "running" it can be started from that area--stop it, then restart it--one of those burning progs might have taken it over (cough cough adaptec) and refuses to release it

also don't install incd or packet cd--those programs are pretty much useless and cause 90% of all burning conflicts

Well i think he should uninstall all the damn software he installed (cd creator and nero) and try rebooting and installing nero again? i think that might work and if the other ideas dont work either than just call dell up i guess?
:devil

A Dell huh. Oh man. They are #1 in customer service and troubleshooting. Wonder why? Because everything they make is fucked up from the start. A family member of mine bought a new Dell comp. After about 4 days the hard drive crashed and burned. Dell installed a new hard drive. Problems with that as well. I suspect they used a refurbished hard drive to replace the old one. Hell, the original drive might have been refurbished as well. Moral of the stroy, Dell sucks.

I also would suggest de-installing all of the third-party burning software (Easy CD, Nero etc.). You don't need ANY of it to burn CDs in windows XP. You can burn data disks right from the Windows Desktop, and you can burn audio CDs (from MP3s or WMAs) from within Windows Media Player. Microsoft licensed the Adaptec ASPI for XP, and it works like gangbusters, as long as your drive is functioning.

good luck, dude.

I had that same problem....or close to it...i got Win XP and my burner was installed and the drivers were compatable but it was the built in burner software that comes with XP that was causing a HUGE conflict. I disabled it (you can either go into the Hardware Manager or modify the registry) Then it all worked perfectly. Nero and Roxio work great.... go to http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/979/ to edit the registry Hope this helps!:cross

nero and roxio EC CD are inccompatable, so if you made a mistake and didn't realise it and then installed the other software, it most likely would not work even if you did everything correct after that.

Clean the system as eveyone here says and keep just one cd burning application till you learn how to use it.

It is possible to just overlook on small detail and get frustrated and try to move on, so it is understandable.

Nero is your best bet!

New computer will not burn

Are you mad!? Don't try and set your brand new computer on fire!
Sigh. If you really must do it though, try pouring petrol over it first.
