there are several p2p networks other than bittorrent;
edonkey, fasttrack, direct connect, gnutella, etc.

why do you prefer bittorent?

1) no spyware
2) no adware
3) torrents rarely are fakes
4) rarely have viruses
5) short queues
6) fast downloads
7) multiple types of files are available
8) It's excellent to download large files

Need anymore?

Other single p2p network doesn't have all those features bitTorrent have.

I love music and all the torrents I get are for full albums so it saves me a lot of time as with kazaa I had to search almost individually for songs of a certain album. Also, I never encountered any MP3's with those annoying beeps as Kazaa was filled with those...

cheers

It needs to have ALL THE above option.

i don't prefer it at all

though fast, it's unsafe, even with the stupid IP blocking add ons etc.

and being site based, there are too many assholes that try to cash in on it

Bit Torrent is one of the fastest p2p programs I've used. It does not use up much ram, and it also does not have spyware. The chances of getting caught are greatly diminshed. Usually if anything, the fbi will take the entire site down, such as the case of elite torrents. Another program I like is Limewire.

Ahh, the notbob post, always with that pissed off feeling. (which I don't mind)

I can agree it's not safe, I've seen several DMCA letters in our file, so it's as much a target as any other network, but I still like it (mainly for TV shows and programs). I don't think I've ever downloaded something that wasn't what it said it was so far.

BitTorrent is not a p2p program transduction. It's a protocol, not a single program. There are many different programs which allow you to use the BitTorrent protocol.

The current reliance on trackers is the only thing that keeps the protocol from being the next big thing. It's not the simple type in a query and get lots of results program that people are use to.

I like it because after one week, you won't find any full sources anymore.

I can see that as probably the worst thing about Bittorrent, if you don't get something soon after it comes out (especially in TV shows) you may not get it.

Good points about BitTorrent.

1. No Adware or Spyware
2. Download Speeds (Excellent for full albums, movies and programs or any other large files.)
3. Very little fake files, malware and viruses.
4. BitTorrent programs don't slow down the Internet like other P2P programs and use less CPU.
5. Almost always get a good connection for the files, don't have to wait like the others.

Bad points about BitTorrent.

1. You can't always find what you want to download.
2. Some of the torrent websites have spyware and annonying advertisements, but you still can find good websites for torrents.
3. Not good for just single audio files, you can get them from LimeWire, Shareaza, eMule, Ares etc.
4. You have to look for torrents on website, but some BitTorrent programs have built in torrent search features like the lattest version of BitComet, BitLord, BitTorrent, TorrenTopia, and TurboTorrent.

why do you prefer bittorrrent to other p2p?
download speed
ease of file search
better community
less threat from mpaa
others (please post your reason)

I thought the MPAA was one of the biggest threats for BT... ?

I mainly use BT for Apps and sometimes music. People tell me that the RIAA isn't watching the torrents, nut I'm not so sure about that....

Yeah the whole healthy file issue is a real pain! But I got some luck out of it recently when my brother was looking for spaceballs (I love that movie) and it was just released on special edition DVD!

Rarely an MPAA member or RIAA member will make a torrent file of fake media and put it on the website. There is alot of people on newsgroups who upload it first to the BT Sites.

Bloddy fast, no fakes, no spyware, and full albums

Can't say I've seen consistently high speeds, but far faster and more consistent than network programs.
The full album scenario is a plus and minus. I like to have a chance to check out the full range of songs, but have to do a lot of housecleaning for space. Sharing is a pain in the ass with BT, but I suppose I bitch too much.

I don't really have a preference over which network I use, i.e. lately i've wanted to download episodes of Columbo, and they are only available on the eDonkey network. It all depends what you're looking for!
