I just finished downloading an .avi file with using bittorrent p2p. The file plays but the sound doesn't seem to work. I have analysed the file with GSpot codec information appliance (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/) and get the following warning:

DirectShow partially succeeded to play file. The actual text of the error or warning is:

0x00040258: VFW_S_AUDIO_NOT_RENDERED - Cannot play back the audio stream: no audio hardware is available.

The following combination of filters were used:

{H:\torrents\Sopranos ..-..jo44.ShareReactor.avi} (Video Source)
{AVI Splitter} (Video Splitter)
{DivX Decoder Filter} (Video Decoder)
{Video Renderer} (Video Renderer)

Does anyone know what the problem is? :icon_scra

The audio information in the file is as follows

Audio Format:
Code: 0x0055
Name: WAVE_FORMAT_MPEGLAYER3 (MP3)
Vendor: ISO/MPEG
The following codecs should both capable of processing this format:

--> {Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec (advanced)}
--> {MPEG Layer-3 Decoder}

Thanks

Fast

Duplicating threads wont help you, one of them will be closed! Plus there are only 13 valued members online at the moment so don't get your hopes up!

You can just delete this thread by yourself. Makes things a lot easier.

Use following tools. First, decompress audio to wav format. Second, use VirtualDub to recompress audio!

AVI Audio Decompressor: http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/attachment.php?attachmentid=10904
VirtualDub: http://www.virtualdub.org/

DJ, what will this do exactly and how will it help any of the players I'm using:

MediaPlayer,
PowerDVD
BSplayer

Sometimes they use encoder not compatible or wrong bitrate for mpeg, so if this is the case you'll need to decompress audio first. Important: Save your original first!

So what do I do once I've decompressed it

I've tried playing the decompressed file in bsplayer but still not sound

Use VirtualDub to recompress audio with audio codecs you have, if you want to keep the file small as wav (pcm) audio takes a lot of disk space!

WAV (PCM) audio does not required codecs, may be it's the way you setup your sound card???

Chap(pesses)s,

Thanks for your help I've totally solved this problem. Stupid ready I have a program crash and one of it's associated processes was still resident in memory locking the sound card. However, something pretty good has come out of it. I found these codecs at k-lite (http://www.codec-download.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewsdownload&sid=73) and updated a lot of the media stuff on my machine.

See you,

Fast
