In recent days I have been recieving quite a few files that seem to be nothing but a collections of hisses/ pink and white noise. I am curious if this is some new kind of encoding other than a standard mpeg or vorbis format, or if it is the p2p app im using (which is ares btw). Just curious if anyone is getting the same stuff cause it kinda pisses me off when I think I have finally got the song I was looking for just to find when I play it that it is shit.

-Thanks

fake files are prevalent on fastrack (kazaa grokster and imesh) and are making there way into other networks too. sometimes they are put there by businesses hired by record corporations with the intention of undermining the networks, sometimes u get dumb little kids who think its funny to rename shit files as music. If these files are encoded to a format your player doesnt recognise they wouldnt play at all rather than coming across as 3 mins of white noise.
