Hell the DVD + or - war still hasn't ended,so I can expect the same from the BLU-RAYand HD-DVD.

I will say this though,I think as far as being able to use the media for archival purposes,that HDDVD seems to be the logical choice.

There were talks of using the physical structure of the blu-ray disks while using the software designed for HD-DVD, however the two sides seem to have come to a stand-off currently.

My money, were I to put any on this situation, would be on Blu-Ray. Its got a larger capacity and more supporters.

Even so, these new format wars are annoying to say the least.

Won't matter. Blue Ray will get more market share and maybe win all out but consumers won't know the difference either way. Next gen DVD players will inevitably play both formats therefore any DVD a consumer or studio chooses will work when brought home.

If it doesn't work out this way there's going to be a lot of pissed of people, returned DVD's, returned DVD players and the HD/Blue ray will never sell well. Particularly because vast majority of people will still not have HD capable TV's until many years after this supposed war begins.

It stalemated. Neither format became the one true format. Most if not all new burners do both formats, so war over.

The war itself is where the studios decide on which format to go with, rather it be movie, pc, game. Its the war to sale it to them , not to us. We wont be able to buy it at less then two dollars a piece. So for the consumer like us will lose. The only thing I hope for is that all these disk can be combined into one player and dvd burner. Reaching a new era that dvd 9 disk cant hold some of the studio things or put more into it. Granted that they could easily take out the commercials that play in alot of these movies =(

Exactly any DVD Burner now does both formats, wouldn't surprise me at all if the next-gen DVDs follow the same path..

Ya but they're physically different...this is more like the VHS and Beta wars...Beta had a better clearer picture with more features (like full sound recording) while VHS was cheaper to produce and was less prone to malfunction....Both of them were physically different as well..hmmm We all know who came out on that war.

It's like the movie industry wants you to buy multiple copies of the same movie only b/c of it's picture quality...these new formats aren't bring anything new to the table except for better picture quality and maybe larger data storage...where's my Blu-Ray computer drive!??!?!

how many movies were actually filmed with fully digital masters? a few dozen? so what will be the advantage to upsampling the crap we have now? a tag that says "HD" and a disc that's really easy to wreck?

As usual, all future next gen players will just support both types because unlike the idiots designing these disks, the manufacturers of players and burners will want the consumer to get thier product (Well, except HP, they are still making only DVD+ burners).
