Hey everyone, We’re excited to announce the official release of Broadcast Machine. Now, publishing video online is easier than blogging, and just as affordable.
So, we need your help to send out the good word to all your videomaking friends and everybody you know who likes watching videos (start typing email addresses now). This is a great opportunity to help independent videomakers reach a large audience, so please, send this email out to as many friends and family as you can. Sharing video online is getting more and more popular, and this tool is going to make it even bigger. It’s going to be amazing to watch more independent video and independent voices springing up.
Check out www.participatoryculture.org/bm to download Broadcast Machine today. It’s free, open source, and easy to install on your website. Basically: Broadcast Machine is software for your website that can publish fullscreen video files to an unlimited audience, using torrent technology to reduce or eliminate bandwidth costs. Broadcast Machine will serve as the perfect publishing tool for DTV, the internet video player that we will be releasing in June.
Broadcast Machine creates video channels that, when viewed in the player, give people a TV-like experience. Taken together, Broadcast Machine and DTV will democratize video publishing online by making it possible to share videos with thousands for almost no cost. Viewers get intuitive, elegant software to subscribe to channels, watch video, and organize their video library. The project is non-profit, open source, and built on open standards. (If you already have the preview version of Broadcast Machine that we released on May 12th, we recommend that you upgrade to the current version.) We’re proud to say that Broadcast Machine is easier to use than most blogging software.
You can be publishing video to your community in just minutes – your viewers get high-quality video (for free!) without any hassle, and you don’t have to worry about the high cost of hosting video on your website. For more information, or to get involved with developing our software, please visit www.participatoryculture.org/bm.

Broadcast Machine and DTV will democratize video publishing online

how do you figure? the MPAA is so tight-fisted that they shake a finger at ppl making home videos. which is the only thing you could brodcast on this without imeadiate legal trouble.

the whole article is written more like an april fools joke than a software release annoucement

There are more Peer-to-Peer TV initiatives out there (like Coolstreaming, DTV / Broadcast Machine from Participatory Culture and Kedora ), which are listed on http://www.tv-free.org/
