I have scoured the Internet for good, unbiased reviews on Win XP SP1. I have found mixed reviews though. So I wanted to get the general consensus or opinon of you people here at ZP. Does XP affect any P2P programs and if so can it be fixed easily? What are the pros and cons and overall is it worth the download? My computer is working good right now and I'm a 56 user :mellow, so I doubt I really need the security fixes/patches. I just update my windows regularly with the update system. If it helps with speed I will be delighted but I sure as hell hope it isn't buggy. Any suggestions on this topic will be greatly appreciated.

A service pack is a collection of bug fixes and product updates. If you have windows xp then you should get SP1. It doesnt interfere with p2p programs it just updates windows.

WinXP SP-1 does not improve performance & it includes Windows Media Player 9. SP-1 also has causes some problems with apps. for some people. Personally, I decided not to install SP-1, I would just keep my firewall & antivirus software up to date. Also, use my common sense with attachments or while I am on the Internet!

SP1 doesn't have WMP9, 2 weeks ago it didn't.
It made my Defrag alot faster than it was.

Umm not to scare you or anything but... SP 1 includes a fix for a major expoit that allows hackers to delete directories on you HD.. Alls they have to do is include a certain web address in a email or web page and this will delete whatever they want from your HD.. Its all to easy to do. You should get SP 1 as soon as possible.

Dopemine, if you are talking about the security flaw in uplddrvinfo.htm, I took care of that without SP-1. I updated those security patches on Windows Update site regularly! Actually, I downloaded SP-1 a while back already, but until I learned more about what is exactly in SP-1, I don't want to install it! Like the saying "If it ain't broken, don't fix it", until it is required to have SP-1 to update future security patches, using common sense seems to serve me well so far!!!

I've been using SP1 for quite a few weeks now, and it has not affected my file-sharing in any way.

According to this review (http://www.tomshardware.com/consumer/02q3/020930/os_comparison-03.html), SP1actually decreases 3d gaming performance!

I've had no problems with SP1
if anything XP seems more responsive

I would recommend installing SP1
with a slipstreamed SP1 bootable XP CD

rather than doing a fresh install
choose the repair options & SP1 will installed to your machine
all your programs & shortcuts are still there

Personally,i'm scared to upgrade to SP1,only because I have a copy that I downloaded from the internet, but i'm paranoind and like to be secure so I guess i'll go out and shell out $200 bucks for it.
Ouch.
But i won't unless it can also be downloaded by using the update system.

the worst that can happen is SP1 refuses to install

assuming your using the FCK key

if you want to change the key M$ have posted a guide on how to do it
(third party apps make it easier)
