www.unitethecows.com is proud to announce that Slyck Tom, formerly of www.slyck.com, has joined our staff as Administrator on a full time basis. Tom brings years of experience of p2p news reporting & knowlege of the filesharing scene. We are so lucky to have a man like Tom join the Herd. Stop by and give him some love!
(UTC looks forward to maintaining our close working relationship with Ray and the crowd from Slyck.com and wishes them nothing but the best :))

SURE when it suits their needs, they post over here--if you ever visit UTC, notice how they constantly badmouth us over there (like unite's avatar for example)
i think it's total bs

September 27th, 2002, 05:48 PM
That might be due to the theft of our news script by Jorge, plus the fact ZeroPaid steals a lot of Slyck's posts...
Oh, and not to mention my Kazaa Participation Hack which was posted here with a direct link to the download, and no mention of me or UTC.
Just don't go there, son.

Well the people will find out who wrote the participation hack when they get to the end of their click, won't they. Asking people's permission to link is ridiculous.
Keep the link free.
"Free Linky"
Look up "Portal" in the dictionary. "Doorway or access point, to take one elsewhere" (ammendum, except when you just want the program)
You look after your end, and I'll look after my end, is the idea.
BTW, everyone loves you now, because you automate Kazaa. You'll go down in history, don't worry.

So, will rae, do i have permission to post your work on our site, giving you absolutely no credit or even a link to your page?
notbob
September 27th, 2002, 05:59 PM
you act like your stories are original--they are all from cnet or the register, or salon etc...
as for the participation hack who cares? its a crap program for assholes that never should have been made in the 1st place. as if kazaa didn't have enough leeches, now it has leeches who think they are "supreme beings"---just what we need is more assholes with god complexes

The difference is, we give credit where it is due.
Oh, and it seems that the participation hack thread, even on your site, was one of the most popular stories posted...
Check your facts. Leechers can't use the app. They have to share to use the program. The participation system is fundamentally flawed, why should DSL users get preference over modem users, even if the users share just as much?
The fact you feel the need to swear in your replies, simply shows me that you have a ZeroPaid mentality. Therefore, your arguments mean nothing to me.
Tom.

They didn't take your work. They just linked to a file. Someone thought it was a good idea, to save a bit of messing around. You know what to do - look after yourself, and you did.
You hid it in the program downloads or something, didn't you?
I understand the need to stick with the tribe though.
Why do you think I put hardware dongles in my programs?

September 27th, 2002, 06:09 PM
Will Rae, i appreciate your intuitive reply. I'm not here to start a flame war.
Well, i totally agree that it was just a link, and if you look at it one way, it's not harming anybody.
However, it doesn't take a lot of effort to give a little credit.. simply stating that it was produced by us, would suffice. I know it's not required to do this, but it is polite...

Tom.
A)someone could download a single file from themselves hundreds of times--sharing 1 file is not enough to not be considered a leech
B)dsl users should get preference, since they can upload at least twice as fast as dialup users (sometimes much much more)
C) if your virgin ears can't take swearing, stay in your bubble over at UTC with your fingers in your ears, and hands over your eyes
D)we can already see your opinions don't matter, since your sig shows you to be a bigot

Incidentally, the flaming stops here. If anybody wishes to add a useful and / or helpful comment to this thread, i am prepared to participate... otherwise, i will ignore your posts.

Yes, credit is good. When your not getting dough, it certainly is nice on the ego to get a little recognition.
Kazaa should have enforeced a percentage on the bandwidth, a fraction of, not a strict limit, like it has. What can you expect from people who like a f*ucking purple teddy bear waffling on at you though?

with intimidated here, even if he is seemingly the local utc representative :mellow Im playing man... but still, I agree with you. I didnt download the prog and cant besure I understand what the problem is... zeropaid linked to a program that utc (or intimidated) both developed and hosted? hmmm. if this is all true it truly sucks.
If it were anyone other than a competing website (be it a developer, programmer, or someone stripping a prog of adware ala dr. damn) they would get their deserved credit. And rightly so. And if it were the other way around and UTC linked to a ZP prog without mentioning that little fact, then jorge, dubstylee and (holds breath) streamOG would be upset. And rightly so.

Now, I've just had some insight. Develop a P2P, program think of it as a long term investment, then suddenly, throw a $20 charge on when it has a "reputation". Ingenious. Kazaa Plus.

Wanting recognition to a program you created is only reasonable. Nobody at ZP has a problem there, people creating software for us is a requirement that some of us can't fill.
Zeropaid members submit stories, and while a few might not deem to give credit to the source, it's not the majority. Slyck is/was a valueable source of info and our mainpage offers links to a lot of stories from a lot of sources. Members here have probably noticed too, that ZP has now arranged with a selection of people to write weekly original editorials. Definitely a good idea.
In the end, if some of us seem uncivilized to you, it's because you seem shameless with your own ability to hate. Every time I see your signature, my blood boils. I have trouble trying to be pleasant to you. Most bigots do at least try to hide it a little.

I've just been to the bathrrom for more Kleenex. Pardon me.
My current project is a video hire store program. I've been building some Barcode reader support into it today. I've made a friend in the "Barcode Scene" (BTW Don't dis the Barcode gang, or they'll blind you with laser shit, and push you through their tills).
A good book to me is the manufacturer's code in the barcode on the box!
I developed it in Visual Basic 6. It hooks to an Access database and uses a lot of SQL, too.
I've Pm'ed you.

I'm open with my opinions. I have the right to express my opinions, but I do it in a civilised manner.
As it seems some are finding it hard to ignore the few words in my signature, i will remove it. But, bear in mind, even if I don't agree with an opinon of yours, i would never attempt to oppress your right to express it freely. This is partly the reason why i choose my "sites of residence" carefully.

Intimidated, how musch does Cow "the News Poster Formerly Known As Slyck" get paid then.
Do you make anything from ad revenue off these glorified forums?
Intimidated
September 27th, 2002, 06:51 PM
The banners on our site are simply swaps with other site, apart from the hosting solution which is Unite (my partner)'s firm.
We make no revenue from it. We have no popups, ads, or anything of the kind.
We make money via the merchandise we are selling. It doesn't quite cover the bills, but it helps.

It's not stealing.
I'll leave you to think about what's wrong with that... But any respectable news site would specifiy the source. We always do. Slyck does. Napjunk does. Slashdot do. Napsterites do.

I will probably get killed wading in on this, but here goes. I have known Intimidated for several months now, and I can honestly say he is not a bigot. He is simply a young man with an opinion. He is certainly not anti-semetic. I don't agree with his opinion here, about the middle east, but I defend his right to express it. Geeze, the whole world is divided on this issue!
As far as ZP goes, UTC, as a whole, does not hate ZP. But when we see our site constanly getting trashed here, by some (not all) of it's members, it is cause for some hard feelings. I don't attempt to speek for all UTC members, but that is the way I feel anyway. I expect to see healthy competition, but not cut-throat knifing and flaming. Remember the real enemy. Can we all say RIAA/MPAA?

There a lot of inteligent people at both sites. There's no money in it for anyone, so maybe they could combine. To make it stronger. Afterall, you get more or less the same news, and the same programs on show. The forums would be brilliant.
Just an idea.

the forum would be brilliant then. but then, ofcourse, we would also have nearly excruciating low points.... like how a cow puts toilet paper on a roll. That particular thread is singularly the most pointless waste of space and bandwidth Ive ever had the privledge of seeing on this world wide web. well.... nearly so anyways.
