I don't think I care too much for the look of the controller. While I appreciate the fact that it will be wireless, I don't like the fact that if I get pissed at a game and throw the controller, it's going to fly back and nail me in the noggin.

Seriously though, if the controls are tight, and it has a good feel, I may adapt. I surely would not turn down the powerful system and potential bad-ass games for the look of the controller.

Sure the Xbox (and PS3) that are designed now have a "much faster" video card that computers, I dont think so. Why would ATI and NVIDIA develop a card just for the xbox and ps3, and not for the computer. Think about it... graphics cards dont really get that much better in a few months...

The 'cards' designed for game systems are not that much beyond the pc counterparts, they are simply optimized for the game system's architecture. Even if such a card is a generation beyond, I would think that a game system's standardization would make production feasible beyond what could be done for a pc.

I'll unfortunately have to pick up a POS 3 because my POS 2 broke down,so there isn't much point in paying two hundred dollars for another one.

The graphics look decent on the new machine,but by the time it hits the shelves the graphics cards for the PC will have advanced well beyond it.What really matters is the games and more importantly the gameplay,the days of selling systems and games just on their looks are over because they all look good nowadays.

IMPORTANT: "The Xbox 360's CPU has more general purpose processing power because it has three general purpose cores, and Cell has just one." What I don't understand is how come they said that when Ps3 have 3.2GHz Cell w/ 7 SPEs? Sony doesn't need those three. They have 7 more processors for running different aspects of the games (shading, blur effects, AA, lighting, graphics). The Xbox only has 3 processors. That means they have to use each of them to do what the PS3 can. I think IGN is biased. I guess that journalist slept during the press conference.

That thread was started by me. I wanted to know people's opinion about the site you posted. I am just glad the population of that forum is many times bigger than here.

That's because the "journalist" misinterpetaited what he was told.

At the CELL presentation IBM told that the branching had to be done by software because they had removed branching from the SPEs to devide them up into more pipelines.

Now the "journalist" thought that they meant the branching had to be done by the compiler and copy/pasted an text-book example about compilers handling branching makes the programs highly unflexible( we actually had the same example in our first semester). But he must have been sleeping because the branching isn't supposed to be pre-done by the compiler, it has to be controled by the OS running on the PPE.

He thought that the PPE would be the only thing that is able to do Integer calculations and that the SPEs were vector units, but they are not. The SPEs are in fact Processing units based on the RISK architecture and can do integer and floating point operations(what he thought the PPE had to handle), plus the SPEs also have each their own vector units, which can work independently simultaniously while the SPE processing unit works on something else(basically the SPEs are simplified and heavely pipeline EEs).

In other words the PPE runs the OS and is the brain that controls branching and devides the workload between the SPEs which does all the hard work.

But why should you trust me instead of a "journalist"? Well you shouldn't, you should trust IBM who made all the CPUs in the next gen consoles:

People will buy what they want and what they can afford.. The specs doesnt matter much, its the games that is gonna sale this machine.. And what people are playing, rather xbox or ps3. No one really is gonna know which one is better til they played both.. And the differences may be minimal. 465 dollars is far more expensive then when the ps2 launched. I think it was 300.00.

Off topic post happen all the time. As for the PS3, I see where it is Bluetooth supported with up to seven wireless controllers. I hope to hell it is better then the Bluetooth wireless head set that my job gave to me to run on the Nextel cellphone I have. If not I wont be in any hurry for the wireless set for th PS3. My cellphone Bluetooth system sucks big time.

The Mods just need to close all these threads, because they just end up in flaming, and insults, and wipeout you need to quit calling people out on your posts, everyone is entitled to their own opinion of which system is the best, without you replying that they are wrong and some bullshit reason why. No one person is wrong in there posts about which system is the best or the fastest, because the systems arent out yet, and there is no final build neither, Sony and microsoft can change hardware specs at any moment.
