This is geared more towards cpugeniusmv, but everyone is sure welcome to offer help.
Do you have to install the security updates from Windows Update? I have SP2 and I just installed 10 updates today, and my used space on my hard drive went from 2.77GB to 2.93GB...that's just 10 updates! I know it's not that big and I have 15GB of space left, but I don't want to blow all my free space on something I might not even need. I'd like to just delete all 10 updates I downloaded yesterday and never install any ever again.
Am I suppose to just contine downloading and installing these security updates until my entire hard drive in filled with them? :icon_shak

I guess you've got to decide what's more important to you. Securitry or hard drive space. But if you decide HD space don't complain if someone gets into your comp. and a secrity update you ignored could have prevented it.

Well, either that or switch to a different OS. I would highly recommend installing every security update you can - it's not like you're really pressed for space now. If you are worried about space, remove anything you don't use - like MSN, wallpapers, etc. But, honestly, I don't think it's worth your time - updates for Windows will take a while to add up to 15 GB

I have no idea what the total disk space an os takes up in its life span of updates but Im thinking no where near 15 gb ever, more like 2 tops

They wouldn't be called critical updates for nothing.

I highly recommend installing future updates, along with keeping these installed.
I also really doubt the windows updates really take up as much space as you've reported here. More likely it's system restore; you should lower the percentage of hard disk space it's allowed to use if it's becoming a problem.
Additionally, if you really believe it's Windows Updates that are taking up all that space, you can navigate to C:\WINDOWS and delete all the folders with names beginning with $NtUninstall. Those folders contain the information necessary to uninstall the updates--you don't need that unless you intend to uninstall the updates.

You can free up lots of space if you delete everything in C:\WINDOWS

Better delete %USERPROFILE%\My Documents while you're at it too. Lots of free space to be had.

If you boot off of a linux CD, you can delete those pesky locked files.

If you want to save the most space on your hard drive, click Start, Run, and type "command" Then simply type "deltree C:" and sit back.
WARNING: Don't actually do this unless you're an idiot. If you do, you're on your own, and I'm not responsible :)

Yep, unfortunately deltree is gone in XP. Feel free to use rd /s /q C:, though. (Warning: don't.)

I have system restore turned off. I deleted the Uninstall folders...which were 56MB in size.
Am I weird for wanting to get as much free space on my hard drive as possible? I know it bothers the hell out of me everytime I download virus def updates with AVG and see the folder grow and grow each time. Plus there's an AVG .dat file in C:\ that's 11MB that bugs me.
