Given the choice of the two I would go with the nforce3, more features and a bit better upgradability.
Gigabyte as a whole is a very good manufacturer of motherboards.
Good performing boards, good prices, and fairly decent web support.
Just be careful as they do produce quite a few unique motherboards that can be quirksome, but not bad.
What I mean by that is that you should go for boards with later revisions numbers and stick to the more popular boards. As someone with over ten years experience in building PCs, I've always had good luck with Gigabye's boards.
One thing that can save you later troubles when deciding on a motherboard, is to check out the manufacturers website. If you can get to their driver downloads for whatever board you want, you'll save yourself the trouble of buying a board by a manufacturer that does not support the board well or does so only in another language.
Other good board manufacturers; Asus, MSI, and Iwill.
