NEtwork Card problem

Hi, I think there may be something wrong with my network card, or with my computer recognising it. When Windows loads there is an icon in the notification area which is the Network with a red cross through it and I cant access the internet. After about two minutes of being disconnected, the icon changes to the Network symbol (2 computers) and there is like a little blob (shit descrition sorry) which is moving, which I assume is the network finally connecting. After about 10 seconds the icon disappears all together and I am properly connected to the internet. I updated to the latest driver but it made no difference. Do you think my network card has had it? Or has anyone had a similar poblem which was resolved?
This is really pissing me off becuae I just have to sit there for 2 minutes hoping it connects :| If anyone is willing to help me but needs more information or something, just tell me because Id love to get this sorted out.

Try doing a repair of your network connection. Also maybe do an IPCONFIG from CMD.

What's your network like? Are you connected directly to the modem, or something more elaborate?

Do you have the latest drivers for your network card?

Do you have the latest drivers for your network card? I am connected to a hub which is connected to a print server and router which is connected to my adsl line. There are also another two computers connected in this way.
And yes I have installed the latest drivers but it made no difference.


When was the last time you defrag your hard drive? A couple of months ago probably (I dont know what it does really, so I dont know how that would affect it)


Try doing a repair of your network connection. If I try doing a Network repair when I first start my PC up it still takes the same amount of time to connect to the network and doesnt make a difference the next time I start my PC. What should I be looking for in IPCONFIG as it looks exactly the same as it always has?

What happens when you connect this computer to the router instead of the hub? Well, its difficult to tell because it only fails to connect sometimes and it hasnt for the last couple of times and it hasnt when I connected directly to the router.
One thing, all three computers are connected to a LAN except one of the other computers seemed to be conneted to LAN1 and LAN2 (but LAN2 wasnt connected) so I disabled LAN2 as it didnt seem to be necessary and now I've been able to connect straight away every time out of 3 restarts. Im not sure if that had anything to do with that LAN2 but...
Sorry about this if any of my desriptions arent very good :D
It seems to be working at the moment. Ill try it tommorrow and if its broken again, I'l report back.
