But why a forum exclusively for ipods? No room for creative or other makes? Or is a sponsorship deal with apple in the offing?

It would have made more sense to have a dap (digital audio player) & pvp (portable video player) forum rather than a iPod forum.
Not everyone has an iPod.

Ipods are crap. Get yourself an iriver h10 or iaudio x5. True audiophiles would never touch an ipod.

Ipod = rubbish eq. Supports mp3, AAC.
X5= Mp3, wma, flac, vorbis,plays movies......etc.
H10= Mp3, wma, wav,... High quality eq presents, surround srs wow, Fm radio, line in recording,....etc.
Sorry but ipods lack too many features, compared with other players, also the audio quality is better on other players. Ipod is just a buzz word. If you do your research you will find that ipods are pretty poor in comparison to ohter players such as iriver and iaudio.

First off, calling a music player 'rubbish' doesn't quite cut it as a reason not to buy it, or even touch it. If you can't be bothered to come up with decent, objective reasons, don't bother to say anything at all.
Secondly, not every player is right for everyone. An iPod may not be what you're looking for, but that doesn't mean that it won't work for anyone. Obviously quite a few people feel that the iPod meets their needs. The iPod is the highest selling portable audio device on the market right now. Which brings me to my final point. It seems that as soon as something gets fairly popular, there are people just waiting to denounce it. The iPod is a good example. Windows would be another good example. It works pretty well for the majority, but the select few who either had problems with it, or want to be non-conformists gripe until the cows come home about how horrible it is.
That kind of stuff just annoys me... Its as if the world revolves around one person and their negative experiences with X product.

I dont know dude....
First of all, an audiophile wouldnt care about an mp3 player playing movies on a super small 160x128pxl screen at 15fps(super choppy). Point is, the iPod is one of the highest rated mp3 players out there, pretty much wherever you look.(Thats research talking.)
It has a great interface that is often mimicked by other mp3 player makers. This is one of its storngest points.
It does support lossless formats especially the good 'ol wav and aiff. Cant get more lossless than that.
Plus, equalizer... why would you need that if you want to listen to the music as it was recorded, just like an audiophile would. Want good sound playback? Get some Sure heaphones for 150+ bucks and youre good.
Sure there are some drawbacks for the iPod. It doesnt play vorbis or flac. No FM radio(I would never use that anyway, and no recording. And it is getting popular, which pisses some people off for some reason. To that, I say that if youre pissed off that someone bought the iPod to fit into a certain social category, youre just like that someone. A product is a product and if it does its job, then its worth purchacing.
I'm not an Apple fan and will never switch from PC to Mac, however, the iPod is a good product and saying that its rubbish is not concidering of all the facts and suggests a biased opinion, which is...lame.

I not saying the ipod is rubbish, for the most part it is pretty good for the majority of users. It is for the more advanced users where the ipods lets itself down with its lack of features. Not that everybody needs these features.
Ipods are a recognised brand name, hence the reason for its popularity. Marketing is a very powerful tool in the consumer world. Often times superior technology gets overlooked in the blitz of marketing that it in fact is lacking.
Im not an ipod basher, i just think its overpriced when considering the features that come with similar priced players.
And for the record the H10 comes with high quality seinheisser earphones - not too shabby for the price.

See, now this is a much more informative post. With all the information and opinion here, someone that is looking for an mp3 player, can make a decision using this stuff.
Microsoft in general would be another example.
Completely agreed. I dont care if my OS was made by Black and Decker, if it works, and works good, I like it.

Anyone ever heard of the H120? That DAP blows the iPod out of the water, has so many features its amazing, too bad iRiver had to move on to the iPod like H10 tho.
Now this is a 2 year old player with optical/line in and out, FM radio, records up to 320Kbps MP3s, plays MP3, OGG, WMA, WAV, came with an LCD remote, also can use rockbox custom firmware to play FLAC, wavepack etc, not to mention true drag and drop and support for winamp playlists. I will never change to a different player as long as my trusty H120 is working well!
The Ipod is just a status-symbol and unfortunately people dont hear about the less-known players, many of which are just as good if not better.

I totally agree with you mate, the more tech savvy users shouldn't really even consider getting an ipod.

Ya my first H120 had hard drive problems after about 1 year, so I took it back to best buy using the 4 year PSP plan, but of course they didnt have the H120 and tried giving me a "comparable" player, glad I called up iRiver and used my warranty to get a brand-new H120 back :) I also found it funny when the guy working the MP3 section didn't know what Winamp was, and thought the H10 was the same as the H120...
No way I am getting a $300 player when I initially purchased the H120 for $330, little more expensive but well worth it :)
Apple might have added featues to the iPod recently, but back a year or so it didnt come close to the H120.
The iPod is the highest selling portable audio device on the market right now. Which brings me to my final point. It seems that as soon as something gets fairly popular, there are people just waiting to denounce it.
And ya its only popular because people are bombaded with the annoying iTunes+Ipod ads, and don't know about the less-known players. Even Best Buy commercials feature the Ipods, so what would you expect more mainstream users would buy. Just because it sells more doesn't exactly reflect the quality of the player IMO.
