Can anyone out there help me? I've downloaded a superb copy of Windtalkers from WINMX! problem being I can't get any sound from it as the file seems to have a .MP3 extension file and as far as I'm aware it has a DIV3 Codec with AC3.

I can open it with the latest version DIVX 5.0.2 player but as I say no sound!! I have also downloaded the DIVX Nimo pack and still no sound.

Is there a player out there that will allow me to both play and hear the damn movie?

I've also been to the DOOM9 Forums as well as DIVX Forums and still no luck.

Is there anyone out there knowledgeable enough to help me?
as I don't want to send this film to the recycle bin!

Oh I downloaded the film from

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/j.buchanan/winmx/movies.html
using hash file: HASH>92d2196eb7cc16f96617356edf81c515 & HASH>df1dfe882ac6211380c8b9775efab78c

Not that it'll help anyone much!!

Virtual Dub comes to save the day yet again! LOL

Ok first go download Vdub from here : http://www.virtualdub.org/

Then open the file in it you should get an error saying it couldn't find the right decompressor. Now remember/write down/copy/whatever the codec it couldn't find to decompress an post it here. Also do a search on goggle for the codec. If it doesn't come up with an error then go to file then to file info an take a screen capture of that info an post that. If you don't know how to take a screen cap heres how. First open Vdub go to file info then hit the printscreen/sysreqest key on you're keyboard. It's up by the del key in the upper right corner. Then open any image program an go to the edit menu an click paste. Now you have the file, now go to save as an save it as a jpeg an post it here. It should look like this....

Anyone of those answers could help you, but have you tried just to change the file extension? Change it from .mp3 to .avi (or .mov, .wmv, or .mpeg).

You may first want to turn off 'hide second file extensions' which is default in windows by doing the following:

1. Open a folder (not IE) like 'My Documents' and at the top click Tools -> and click Folder Options.

2. Click the 'View' tab at the top (there should also be a General, File Types, and Offline Files tab).

3. You should see a check list, not too far down it is a check box wth 'Hide file extensions for known file types' checked. Uncheck it and click apply and then ok.

Now go to the file and change .mp3 to any one of the file types above.

Hope that helps! Thanks and best of luck!

MoonMan you're very close, it is a file association problem, not an mp3 or avi extention. The dll's have roles to play, and windows is confused about who exactly does what, and, for lack of better terms, there are jurisdictional conflicts. These are registered in Windows, and the problem is not attributed to WMP or other like programs.

I cant explain why uninstalling all seems to alieviate the problem, but it does.

.

Makes sense.

Do they teach you that in Software Teleportation School? Haha just kidding :-)

It has probably been encoded with Xvid, there a few movies encoded with this, if you do not have the codec it will not play (the latest star wars movie and insomnia divx's that are on kazaa are encoded with this), download the Xvid codec on kazaa then reload the nimo pack and it should play.
