Hey guys,

I've just started having problems with my internet. I come on and sometimes I have no problems but most of the time I'm getting the 'page unavailable' message. I can usually get in to the sites after pressing the refresh button a few times but as you can imagine this is really wearing thin. Other times I can't get in all. It's not a matter of a certain site either, it's most sites (including this one a few minutes ago) and it's each page. I tried posting this message last night but it kept giving the 'page unavailable' message whenever I tried to submit the thread. It seems to be slower than I'm used to aswell.

I installed Spyware Blaster the other week and was wondering if this could be something to do with it but I turned off protection on it and it still happened. I've scanned with Norton and that said I had one threat but didn't mention fixing it whatever it was. I scanned with Ad-aware and Spybot also and they showed nothing wrong (Spybot actually gave me the 'Congratulations-no threats' message for the first time since I've used it!).

Anybody have any ideas?? I'd be unbelievably grateful to anyone who can give me an idea!!

I'm on NTL broadband by the way and use Internet Explorer.

Spyware Blaster isnt your problem

What about your Firewall? Are you using Protowall? Hostess? You have a router?

Are you set to Obtain and IP Address Automatically, and Obtain a DNS Server Automatically?

Empty all your temp and temporary internet files

go to Start > Run > CMD

copy this, then RIGHT CLICK to paste in < ipconfig /flushdns > then hit enter

Also, do you have another browser to try?

Reset your cable or DSL modem and restart your PC

If that doesnt work, call your ISP

i have had an issue like that i came to the conclusion since i have ad aware spybot spyware guard and spyware blaster installed the host files block media ads, advertistiments etc. I do get time outs alot too and i have to hit refresh several times as well.
the issue is i get this problem sometimes.
right now if i go to dog pile i am unable to do a search because i notice that the search i do is dependent on click.go advertisments.

I figure this is the issue and i think the way to fix the problem is to remove the ip address range from some of the advertisment companies, but i dont wanna do it.

i think something is causing the problem via one of these 4 problems, and its the host file.
until then i just been dealing with it, buts getting annoying to man.

i am going to do what u said when i get chance.

if u think of any other resolutions to this problem it would be nice to know about it, because i am sure maybe others are having problems too.

cheers

I don't it'd be my firewall coz I've used the same one (windows) since I've had the computer and I've only just started getting these problems.

I haven't changed anything except install Spyware Blaster so I don't know why my configurations would have changed. I've been able to go to all my sites fine up until recently so I'm pretty sure they'd all be the same wouldn't they? Unless I'd got a virus or something?

Just another thought, could it be Shareaza causing this?? I downloaded it a fare few weeks ago now and haven't had problems (to my knowledge) up till now so I wouldn't have thought so, but I'm not all that savy with computers as you know.

P.s. Doing the copy/pasting inconfig thing won't muck up anything else will it? I have the computer pretty much exactly how I want it (except for the obvious problem I've mentioned) and I don't want anything else disturbed.

ipconfig /flushdns won't harm anything.

But you didn't answer some of Krell's questions that may be crucial to solving your problem.

Are you behind a router? or are you directly connected to your cable/dsl modem?

Perhaps most importantly, are you obtaining an IP address and DNS server(s) automatically, or are the set manually? (Look in the TCP/IP Properties for your network adapter)
