Anyone gonna watch this remake? It will be shown on Showtime April 16. Looks really funny to me and has a great cast.

"It began as a movie way back in 1936... then it became a stage musical... In April 2005, REEFER MADNESS returns to its roots and airs as a movie musical for premium cable network Showtime! The production boasts REEFER stage alums Christian Campbell, Robert Torti, Kristen Bell, John Kassir, Harry S. Murphy starring alongside Alan Cumming, Neve Campbell, Ana Gasteyer, Amy Spanger and Steven Weber. The film was helmed by original REEFER director Andy Fickman from a screenplay written by creators Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney. All three executive produced the film in partnership with Bob Greenblatt, Jim Veres and Jan Korbelin. The vast majority of the songs from the 2001 Off-Broadway production are featured in the film, with the addition of a brand new duet "Mary Jane/Mary Lane," written especially for the movie!"

I saw a special about it on Showtime. It looks like a good send up of the original. I'm sure I'll catch it, man.

all this and more can be found in the internet archive (www.archive.org")

Reefer madness is public domain and if you look in the moving images section of the archive they also have many other Gems you can download for free. Some good classics.

If you liked Reefer Madness you will also laugh at Sex madness, another 30's era propoganda film for scaring kids.

From Internet Archive and imdb:
This is a typical sex exploitation film from the early 1930s - complete with wild parties, sex out of wedlock, lesbianism, etc. A chorus girl's exposure to the "casting couch" also exposes her to syphilis.

Exploitation filmmakers hoped to capitalize on the taboo subjects of venereal disease, sex before marriage, lesbianism, etc. while skirting the Motion Picture Production Code of 1930 which forbade a film from containing such content. Films like this would tour the United States for years - mostly being shown in rundown, skid row theaters. This film has been re-edited and re-titled ("Human Wreckage", "They Must Be Told", "Trial Marriage", "About Trial Marriage") many times to attract the same audience to film, to take advantage of a taboo subject which may have gotten press recently or to appease local censors who disapproved of the film's content."
