in theory, cj's should be 10x better than that one--region free, etc
from the manual
1 Press up/down to highlight ‘MP3/JPEG Nav’.
2 Enter its submenu by pressing 2.
3 Press up/down to choose a setting.
➜No Menu: playback all files in
sequence automatically without a menu.
➜With Menu: playback files in the
selected folder within a menu.
4 Press OK, then press < to return to the
Preference Setup Page.
Helpful Hints:
– MP3/JPEG Nav can be set to WITH
MENU only if the disc was recorded with
menu.
– It may not be available on some discs,
even though it is set to ‘WITH MENU’.
is this your problem?

yea...i dont think it plays Divx...but for me it works great
I just dupe the DVD i want and keep it in a giant DVD binder.
I could encode to Divx...but I dont see the point since youre taking an extra step. It only makes sence if you download a movie thats in Divx format...but then again, it just takes us space on the hard drive...thats my opinion.

The point is that I can have the entire lotr extended version set on one dvd in divx. Instead of 6 dvds.

I've got the same player cj, and it works perfect for me. I've never had any problems. Plays all my burned dvds, both + and -, svcd, vcds, and divx movies. Also, having progressive scan and component output is nice. It's the best player I've ever seen for under $100 (and tops most players above $100.)

sounds good
i think i have come to the issue or problem.
from this site http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/143836
specifically autogk with regards to ess
With AutoGK did you select the ESS profile or whatever? Because as I understand it AutoGK uses custom quant matricies unless you select ESS. The reason for this is that ESS based players don't handle certain matricies well.
I think this is the issue but i am still unsure
another issue was the way the remote wasnt working
a way to bypass this would be to do this to make the xvid files play
*from what i read*
Message To All....I found out that if you press the menu button on the remote of the dvp/642 and then press it again...you're screwed up xvid or divx movies will play perfectly!...
Also press and hold the stop button to open the cd tray....Hope I kan help.
---------------------------------------------------------
this holds no water, and no resolution to the issue i am having.
seems like it can work for some people but not for me

I highly recommend the divx/dvd player below, I personally do not own of these, but i have set and installed one for my m8. I find that it is very compatiable with Xvid encoded films, it can even handle VBR mp3 and AC3 soundtracks, which too me is very impressive. Only downside is no acess to firmware upgrades, which is really disapointing as a couple of upgrades could really make this a fantastic all-round player.
The price is very cheap, and you get what you buy for.

I have the little cyberhome CH-300 and while it doesnt play DivX it plays svcd and vcd's fine and theres plenty of DivX to DVD tools and guides around so theres no real reason to buy a divX certified player .
Your better off these days coverting and burning to DVD-ROM so you can play the burnt disk on all your DVD capable devices including xBoxes and Playstations . Double layer DVD writers can be found for $100 .

i also have a cyberhome ch dvd 320 that plays mpg very well, it is progressive scan, but the new player i have supports divx, but the start up time is slow, that is why i brought the phillips divx player. its very slow to read man. i hope it will work out tho.
i am testing something right now i hope it will work out, if not i am getting rid of the phillips player man.
for shame :(
------------
my test
well i put it on a regular cd recordable and the menu does come up, it wont play the file even though its mpeg4. It attempts to play it though but its only showing black on the screen.
I am thinking maybe its the way I converted the file using autogk, but i am unsure.
Suffice to say the phillips player should play mpeg4 but its not.
I am going to think its the issue with the way autogk converted the file.
for shame
I thought maybe it was my dvd -r media and its not that.
hmm well time to do reencode the file maybe to mpg *the file* and see if it plays well in this new player.
well time to convert it two ways over, but hmm, this kinda sucks.
the idea that this player will not play this file type is sucky, as that is why i brought it in first place.
*hmm i just might take it back*

CJ I found out that the Cyberhome CH-320 is the CH-300 that was made for Target .From what Ive researched about this little player make sure you you keep it in a spot where it wont overheat which shouldnt be hard with its small footprint .From what ive read online if you have problems with this player and tell Cyberhome about it they will probably replace it for you .
The region hack is undocumented for these players but it works
1) With your TV on and using the CyberHome remote control select POWER ON to turn on the CyberHome DVD player.
2) Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the CD tray.
3) Confirm that there is no CD in the tray and press OPEN/CLOSE to close the tray.
4) While the screen says “loading” press the MENU button.
5) Press "1" and then press "9"
6) On the TV a three line box appears displaying the current region number (ie: 1 for USA).
7) Press the DOWN arrow until the region number shows 0 (zero). (NOTE: Other posts say that you should press ENTER then 0 (zero) –.
8) Press "ENTER" to accept.

CJ By default AutoGK encodes the MPEG-4 in Xvid and not DivX becuse Xvid is a open source codec and AutoGK is open source so you know what codec they prefer to make defualt .So you may have a Xvid disc .
You have to set the DivX option in advanced options. Im worndering if that will help .

As advertised, You Have, We Play It.
