Its been only a couple of days since I installed DC++. Being an old shareaza user I find it pretty confusing.
But I read all the faqs and most of the help available here. Found the hub lists, made share folders and managed to connect to some hubs, but when I try to search for files the search ran almost all night without any results, I tried other search strings on other hubs no luck yet. (I'm mainly interested in comics and books. If you guys can suggest revelants hubs I would be grateful.)
Also when I connect, I try to get a user list, the list download (pretty slowly) then it disappears. Is there s default location to which the userlist downloads?)

Dc carries two ports (or doors if you will). One is for your connection (TCP) the other for search (UDP).
If you are behind a router or firewall that won't permit the changing of ports to free the UDP to work, then you must be passive. Understand that passive has its own limitations. Among them, you can not search or connect to other passives (meaning that your searches won't check everyone).
If you are in active mode but the router or firewall blocks the UDP port then none of your searches will be effective.
You are on a public forum, I doubt anyone is going to recommend you something specific, such as a hub or source.

either try running on passive mode
or disable ur firewall and check, dc++ wont work if u havent configured ur zonealarm or other firewalls
its pretty easy to use otherwise, its my fav filesharing application

Yea! Its working, it's working. Thanks guys. Esp Trulyme, your suggestion worked.Unfortunately now I'm on passive, Anyway I could change that?
I'm not behind a firewall. But I have Ipatrol and AVguard protecting my system. I'll check to see if Ipatrol is the cause.

Ask where you are in your place you connect to. It should be ready knowledge to those there. Someone should be able to tell you just how to set it up to be active. That will be much more effective than trying to make post after post to figure out how you are set up and what you need to do to change.

A quick test to see if your PC has a routable IP address is to check the IP from windows 2000/XP (Start > Run > cmd /k ipconfig) or (Start > Run > winipcfg) for Win98/ME. Does that IP match the one from http://www.dslreports.com/ip ?
If they don't match, then you will need to configure whatever device sits between your PC and the broadband modem.
