Hi everyone,

I have a question about uploading on Ares. I am at a university and have the benefits of a T-3 connection. The problem is though that the university has a firewall that I suspect messes with upload speeds. As far as downloading goes, I am happy as a pig in shit, but I would really others to get my files at higher speeds. People uploading from me are lucky to get 5 KB/s. When I download though, I get almost 100 KB/s from a fast user.

Do I need to use a proxy to avoid the firewall? Maybe a different port? Anyone have some tips? I really want to be fair; P2P doesn't work if people don't share.

Thanks a lot everyone.

William

have u seen the upload limit setting in the options?? i am almost sure you have because if it is set lower than 8 kBps you get a leeched paused on your downloads, but, just to make sure.

im not very familiar with how those firewalls and stuff work but what i would do would be to try a whole bunch of ports (id go for the higher ones) but im almost sure that wont help you get through

just wait for some more advanced users to come by and they will drop a few words of advice for you

Peace

try port 443 (you might not be able to access encripted websites while it's running though) most uni admins leave that port reachable i think.
