Whats the best software out there to "back-up" DVD's? Definitely must be able to bypass copyright protection.

DVDShrink (http://www.dvdshrink.org/) coupled with DVD43free (http://www.dvd43.com/) for DVD's with extra copy protection that gives DVD Shrink trouble (DVD43free is an on-the-fly deprotection driver used in conjunction with DVDShrink).
Also, DVDdecrypter (http://www.dvddecrypter.com/) for just plain ripping is definately the best.
Dont forget to install Nero Burning Rom (http://www.nero.com/) if you want DVDShrink to be able to burn, also.

I always use and would highly recommend AnyDVD and DVD Shrink. AnyDVD decrypts on-the-fly which is why I like it. Used to use DVD Decrypter first and then Shrink but found it to time consuming. Although, I still use DVD Decrypter for those movies that AnyDVD can't decrypt. I have yet to have any movie that I could not copy. Oh, and also VOB Blanker works well to.
the great one

DVD Rebuilder used in conjunction with Cinema Craft Encoder makes the absolute best DVD9 to DVD5 full disc backups.
Even if you don't want the full disc, you can reauthor with other tools (Shrink, etc.), keeping the main movie at no compression, then use DVDrb+CCE to shrink it. It's amazing how well it handles artifactng.
There are guides at www.doom.org and www.afterdawn.com.

I usually make people buy their own stack if they want quantity... but I always reward those who lend me movies with a few extra flicks I think they need to watch.

At a cost *cough* of $1,950.00, Cinema Craft Encoder SP damn sure better make the best DVD's, and it does! Fuck DVD Shrink. CCE Basic uses the same encoder as SP and at 58 bucks, should you pay *cough* for it, is worth every penny.
