I was just curious what you guys used ed2k, overnet, and kad for? I can't understand why it is the most popular network, as it is very, very slow.
I personally almost never use it, it's probably been a couple months. I usually use it for video files or applications that I can't find on any other network. I use it as a last resort because it usually takes a couple days to download something.
For large files I first look on bittorrent sites, and if I can't find it there I connect to the gnutella and gnutella2 netorks.
For mp3's I use dc++.

As far as I know it isn't the biggest network. In fact I don't think most people use it anymore. It was only good for very large files, and now everyone uses Bittorrent for those.

I use Overnet 0.52 for large files. Mostly movies. I usually have access to all the newest content way before their official releases. Get Great Speeds also.
Mostly movies & music (before their official release), tv shows, ed2k sites, ebooks, and pron (yes) occasionally.

ed2k is the best network for uploading a file less then 2 times and it will be downloadable months and years later.
bittorrent, gnutella and newsgroups are all about the leeching
ed2k is all about sharing and caring

which client do you use? I use the overnet/ed2k hybrid and I get horrible speeds.
On the gnutella, bittorrent, and direct connect networks I share all my files and sometimes leave it on over night, or while I'm at work (I don't know about everyone else though)

If I can't find it anywhere else, it's probably on ed2k.

I share all my files
thats why you get bad speeds, if you only share your partials you'll earn more credits, faster.

As others have stated the content on the ED2K /Overnet network simply cannot be beat. Bar none you will find almost anything you are looking for.
As far as speed is concerned it is not a network for the uninitiated, you have to properly set up the program, and be patient; as the download speeds increase over a period of time. You wont get kazaa speeds right away but it is a fast network if you give it time.

most people on the edonkey network use emule
one of the things emule does it keeps a track of how much you downloaded offf a certain person and keeps a log
when that person trys to access a file off you he is then given a queue slot corresponding to the amount he uploaded to you
so the more you upload to people the better queue slots you get the faster your downloads are ,,, emule is good for older rarer files
overnet/edonkey however don't use the same principle they use instead a horde system which means you get partners for your downloads ,,, that is you don't wait on his queue and he doesn't wait on your queue but that is only for a certain file both of you are downloading and not everything ,,, and this is better for new releases
to the matter at hand is why people use it ,,,, well for me its the best place for rare albums ,, movies ,,anime ,, manga .... just about anything you neeed you will fidn there

If you take what slyck.com write for granted then ed2k is by far the largest network...

Why do U guys say U use the ed2k for movies if its so slow?
It seems U would use a program which is faster?

I have never said it is slow. I max my connection almost al the time with eMule. Often the speed depends on the files (sources) and if eMule is correctly configured which many people have problems doing. :)

This is what I do, leave the computer running overnight for a few days and when I have enough files then burn to media.
