According to many websites, Disney is moving ahead with making "Toy Story 3" without Pixar (The original makers of Toy Story & Toy story 2).

What do you think about this development? Should Disney make Toy Story 3 without Pixar?

Disney distributed it for PIXAR - they had a deal with each other.

I have heard this rattling around for a while. Disney just wants to whore their properties to make money. I think it is a bad idea. The people at PIXAR have love for what they produce. They make films that the story comes first, the vision second. Disney would love for a few quick million, not thinking of the manner in which they will tarnish the memories of the first two films.

HORRIBLE choice on Disney's behalf. Damnit. Pixar should have the rights anyway, damnit. It will suck if disney does it. they don't put even 1/4th the work into their movies as Pixar does. really. damn, what a disappointment.

Disney has really kicked the bucket, their movies dont hold the charm they used to. Even brother bear which was a well done movie didnt compare to those of the past. It seems disney is on a downward spiral.

If there was a toy story 3, and could be. PIXAr would of written it and gotten to work on it. Disney is making it for sake of making money. I wish PIXAR owned the rights to it and not let disney go ahead.

I'd say.. sweet, maybe Pixar can make something a little more adult oriented... but look at how Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (a revolutionary film, really) performed at the box office... Square animation closed down and adult themed animation was doomed in the US.

Pixar's great though.. I have always enjoyed their stuff and a lot of the humor in their movies goes over the heads of the kiddies.

Well, the only reason Disney is doing this movie is, because Pixar decided not to renew its contract with Disney, so Pixar has sold all the Toy Story properties and rights to the movies to Disney.

Pixar were contracted to make a 3rd Toy Story film, but Disney went behind their backs to make their own Toy Story 3.

This is sad. I heard something about this a while ago.
I heart pixar.
My human relations class taught me that Disney is evil and racist.
My human relations class was designed for lunatics.

a new team will bring out new effects and new content.
Competition is good, I think the decision was made because pixar wanted too much money.
new technology needs more balance of power. or do you want a new mircosoft called pixar ?

Even if dinsey released nothing but shit straight to home video content (read the last few years)
And relied only on their library and clever marketing scheme to have a classic on DVD one last ime for a limited time only (until the next decade)

They would still make a killing.

The theme parks are money vaccums and are still the highest atteneded theme parks worldwide

EDIT: Oh yeah and they suck ass if they do it without Pixar.
Another shitty animated movie cash in

Now lets look at this in concept.

Sure pixar is innovative but lets face it they are not as much of a factor with the advancements in film since the debut of the first TOY STORY venture I dont believe they are as big of a game player.

You can bet that disney payed close attention to pixars technology and have similar technology as well as some of pixars techs.

I dont see it as being as much of a flop as the overall consensis.

We will see I didnt much care for the cartoon to tell the truth to begin with though it was a great film for the children.

Hello DreamWorks, Goodbye Pixar?

The 40 Walt Disney Corp. production staffers working in a low-slung building in Glendale, Calif. were Michael Eisner's answer to his Pixar Animation Studios problem. Pixar makes hit films like Finding Nemo and The Incredibles for Disney. And its chairman, Steve Jobs, has been pushing Disney for more lucrative terms when the two sides try to renegotiate a new contract later this year. But just in case that falls through, the Glendale crew is already hard at work on Toy Story 3, the sequel to Pixar's 1995 and 1999 blockbusters that Disney intends to make with or without Pixar. Now, with the Mar. 13 board selection of President Robert A. Iger as Disney's next CEO, the story may have an entirely new ending.

Disney board members are urging Iger to put the Pixar situation at the top of his to-do list, says a source close to the board. He may already have an opening for a deal. Jobs, who clearly disliked Eisner, was among the first to send a congratulatory e-mail to Iger.

But Iger has other options. Some studio insiders say he may make a bid for DreamWorks Animation SKG, the studio started by David Geffen, Steven Spielberg, and former Disney studio chief and longtime Eisner foe Jeffrey Katzenberg. DreamWorks produced edgy hits like the two Shrek blockbusters and last year's Shark Tale.

Despite Katzenberg's courtroom battles with Eisner over his compensation, a deal with DreamWorks might not be as unlikely as it seems. As president of ABC prior to its 1996 acquisition by Disney, Iger bought a 1% stake in the upstart DreamWorks studio and ordered two TV shows for the network. When Iger married TV reporter Willow Bay in 1995, Katzenberg was front and center. "They have a good relationship," says a friend of both. The deal could be structured as a stand-alone unit, similar to Disney's 1993 arrangement with Miramax, which was negotiated by Katzenberg. But it would still face hurdles, including a hefty price tag and DreamWorks' existing distribution deal with NBC Universal. Neither Disney nor DreamWorks would comment.

And even as Jobs makes friendly gestures to Iger, he is taking elsewhere business that might otherwise have gone to Disney. In August, Pixar negotiated a licensing deal for its video games with THQ Inc. and is looking at potential partners for its merchandise. More of a stumbling block, Jobs wants to cut in half the 12.5% fee that Disney now gets for marketing Pixar films. And he wants full control of all Pixar films, which are now controlled by Disney.

Still, both sides have a lot to gain by working out a deal. Clearly, Iger's first choice is to stay with Pixar, which contributes about 50% of Disney studio profits, figures Merrill Lynch analyst Jessica Reif Cohen. Iger, who has years of experience repairing egos bruised by the abrasive Eisner, will have his hands full with Jobs. But in any tough negotiation, it's always good to have options.

And...

ComingSoon reports that The Sun-Sentinel has uncovered more story details about Disney's Toy Story 3, which the studio is developing without Pixar, at least for now.

The newspaper says that about 40 people are working on the film at Disney's new animation unit and confirms that Bradley Raymond, who directed The Lion King 1=, and Roy Conli, who produced Treasure Planet and The Hunch Back of Notre Dame, are in talks to join the project.

Disney does not have a commitment from Tom Hanks and Tim Allen to reprise their voice-over roles as Woody and Buzz Lightyear. Disney has yet to approach the pair.

The article adds that the third film follows the adventures of Buzz after he is recalled to the Taiwan factory where he was built. Production is expected to begin next year for release in 2008.

you hanks-spanker, you! seriously, disney has been circling the drain for years. i used to be a disney merchandiser for years, and it got so hard to demand prime space for movie displays when you knew the product itself was crap. that's why they went back to re-releasing their old classics.

They got some kinda 10 year contract i think, they gotta finish releasing Cars together then its over unless they renew.

I think the CEO of each company are close friends so, that could make a difference.
