For one the only sure fireway to be safe is never to download in the first place you run the risk of getting the snapped while trying to get the cheese no matter what.
While canadian laws are a bit more laxed in certain situations... They are still very similar to the laws of the united states I would guess that the US could persue a lawsuit against a canadian resident but there would have to be other legal hurdles that would need to be crossed in order to do so so your chances are a bit more slim...
Bottom line is the risk of being caught is ever present at all times and the chances so far according to statisitics are slim to get caught no matter what the circumstance.
You might want to execute the search function though as this question has a couple of posts with numerous pages concerning lokitorrent and what all went down with lokitorrent.
Some say that they confiscated all the log files and the log files are leading the MPAA/RIAA on a map to no where so really while others are saying theres logs for two years watch out and so forth... I dunno I would consider it a possibility but I wouldnt loose any sleep over it as many of the ISP's in canada dunnot give out personal information but they will warn you.
The process is supposedly like so:
The MPAA/RIAA or organization in cahoots with them (BAYTSP) will scoop up your IP and logged transaction (most times they like to catch people in progress for obvious reasons)
Then they figure out where the IP came from what service provider located where...
Next they will report the issue to your ISP.
Your ISP will decide weather to give up your personal information or not and will warn you most cases they wont but will warn you.
Then they will shut your service off and make you sign a paper admitting to guilt and make you specify that these actions will not take place. Then you sign the paper admitting to guilt and agree to be a good little internet user.
Then beyond that they may deny you your service and if you cause too much of an issue they will turn over your information and let you be delt with appropriately.
It is in my honest opion that once you are required to sign a letter your best bet is to move on down the line to the next ISP down the block if possible. Or consider being a bit more discreate on how you go about things in a proof lacking manner.
But the chances are not to great to get busted you have a better chance winning 20bux on a $1 scratch of lottery ticket USD lol! But hey if your worried there are more discrete options out there for you to test.
