9.5 with the last patch was yeilding some of the most efficient speeds i have seen in Ants. However Gwren told me that he found a critical bug last night in 9.5 so it is important for everyone to update and post their stats so we can test 9.6. post stats after you have run at least 4 hours.

This version does seem quicker - so whatever Gwren fixed he fixed it 'good' - however - the search results are still a problem. For those results posted there are lots of files being uploaded, but the search results just do not match that level. A search for common strings sometimes only produces a few files (no even 50 from each user - so that is not the problem). I feel that (like MUTE) the search horizon is in some way constrained, perhaps search results are being lost or the request is not getting through properly. Is there any way to tell? Unlike MUTE the search cannot be stopped (except by a different search I suppose), so the too few results are not a result of impatience.
Any other observations anyone?
Best regards
Chris

9.6b has a problem with searching and retuning files. Gwren is fully aware of it and is working on it.

thats something that i really admire about ants!!! even though it doesnt seem to have a "large" user base, it does have a cult following who are very loyal and dedicated to making annonymous p2p possible. And im sure this will lead to better programs in the future!!! I wish i knew more about programming and such, so that i could really help test Ants. But until i learn, ill continue to follow whats happening. Let me know if there is anything i can help do, considering im not incredibley versed in computer technology!!!

undercurrent, if you have a free computer and somebandwidth it would help to run the program and report your stats. 9.6 c is working very well so far. I have active uploads and downloads running 10 kb/s. I also have cpu at 100% but that is because i am still hashing after problems with prior versions. I will have to wait till hashing isd done to get a true reading on cpu.

a download.com reference url would be not so bad.

Can't connect this morning with 0.96c. Can't get IRC to connect. Webcache appears not to be working.
Last night, downloaded several mp3s that I've been after for a while.
However, my statistics did not reflect this!
Has anyone else had issues with 0.9.6c re stats, IRC or connecting to ad hoc network?

I go offline from time to time for as yet an unknown reason - but I think that it is the ISP. It is very annoying as I try to run 24/7 - and then I get home and find activity on my pc trying to send and no reply coming back. I'll give them a ring - but expect little help...... and the only way to get going again is reboot.

btw if anyone has any ideas why I lose my connection please feel free to advise. The help line for my isp look and notice I'm running p2p just by the throughput (2- 2.5 GB/day), cringe when I tell them I'm using a zonealarm + protowall, two virus checkers and win xp + anti-spyware things. So I need to check to filter, and try fewer blockers and see if it still happens. No-one else getting this right? I do not think it is due to p2p anyway (MUTE or ANts)

i pay $200 year for gym. But my Girlfirend just joind one for $100 a year, so it is posible to find great deal. These are very basic pumping iron gyms. A fancy one can cost $500 to $800 a year, but i think thats nuts. Also i live in city so i can shop around. Other people may not have so many choices.
The last patch of 9.6c that i got last night is bad. I can not connect. I have been tryin for hours. I already told Gwren. So it is not your ISP. Just wait a few more hours for Gwren to fix.

no original 9.6c it was great--, but then Gwren issued another update under the same version number. The update was bad.
I hate whe he issues updates under the same version number. It gets so confussing. he must me sleeping now. He is on Italian. i am sure he will have a fix in a few hours.

so we can expect 0.9.6d right? funny beta indeed...
btw, Gwren(if you can see my post here), please tackle the irc problem. Almost disconnect all the time. If we can rely on webcache, just let it go, no more boring irc ok? Or, as the Japanese "Share", just setup a page for all the ants to manually add their node code(or IP), then new comer can cut and paste to add nodes for the first time and run. May be you should set the "add ip to webcache" on by default. Just make some information on installation to let the user chose is ok.

096 seems to be the non-scalable official network.
so big problems. 097 not stable, 096 not scalable.
if there is 098, i would like to know, how the problems wer solved ?
Userbase does not know, which one to use. To much testing here...
This is what Gwren said:
"If you want to use ants (note NOT TEST, USE... downloading something I
mean) you have to get 0.9.6c.
The 0.9.7 (all releases: a...g) is unstable cuz I have refactored the
whole protocol, so that's not usable and have to be used ONLY to help me
in the testing process, in a SEPARATED AND SMALL (10 nodes, no more)
network, also don't expect to have usable speeds with 0.9.7."
So he pretty much wants everyone back on 9.6c
He want a few people that can keep up with his updates on 9.7

Yes it would be a little nicer if the normal users and the alpha test users were separated better.
I would guess that this has not been done yet because up until 0.9c there was not really a stable enough version for normal users.
