I know it's the done thing to buy a bigger HD, faster writer, faster processor etc, but have you ever thought about the noise your PC makes?
Believe me it's noisy.
Visit www.quietpc.com for the low down. I bought myself a quiet PSU, and today I just fitted a Zalman silent flower cooler.
Utter bliss. Honestly, you'll get less bothered when you have a headache after a night on the pop or whatever, and when you type? When you type, it sounds LOUD.

no doubt notbob.... but when you do some overclocking, or are running three harddrives, two optical drives, a video card, sound card, ect... and your pc gets hot as hell and you need 6 fans or more.... well, you dont wantto choose one that runs at 40db, your eventual ambient noise level would probably approach 70db if not more, and that is a loud annoying noise over any period of time. So you would go and find a quiet fan... there is a link off that 7volts site:
sidewinder (http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/tecar.html) that lets you hear the noise levels of 30 different fans, some are over 50db.... others hover under 20db. Ive heard the panaflo L1a's are very good, very quiet fans that are also inexpensive. When I finally build a new pc come the new year it is what I will use. And when I do that I will install monitoring software to make sure that everything is going well, rather than listenig to make sure as I do now.
Anyways, there are lots of other things you can do to lessen noise... theyve even got something about rubberized coatings for hard drives and mounting them independently so that the hd noise and vibration is isolated from the case. lots of good ideas for quieting a pc, however, I wont be doing most of them unless the noise becomes unbearable. truth is, Im just too lazy.
