This morning my internet was shut off because my ISP Patriot Media said i downloaded a movie (enternal sunshine of the spotless mind) and because i was using Direct Connect....

I didn't personally talk with the employee of Pat Media, but my brother told me that is all they said.

The last time i used DC++ was while ago, and my connetion setting was set to passive.

Does anyone know what port DC uses?? or how they could tell i downloaded that movie months and months ago using DC???

Im just trying to gather information so i can stop another instance of this from happening.

411-415 for hubs, random for clients (or the one you specify)

you can use hubs with different ports, if you can find them

if you were connected to a hub using the standard 411 port, yes

but since they knew a file shared/downloaded, you were probably hit with a search bot in the actual (public) hub, which then sent an email to your ISP based on your IP address

solution? stay away from public hubs, they aren't safe

My best advice would to be using closed groups for movies that havent hit the street dates.. after or if their on the video store, just rent them and burn a copy. Your copy can actually be alot better then the stuff you download. You can choose which languages, extras, compression for video. You can actually burn it on a dvd9. =) change your port settings in your firewall/router/ and see if your dc program can make your port open on the ones you specified on your router.

How do you get into private hubs?

Basically you try networking in public hubs till someone invites you. Sometimes it does take a while though.

yea i actually barely use DC ever anymore,, if i do its for less common things.. think i could be 'caught' if i just share movies etc?.. rather than downloading them (cause u need to share alot inorder to get in the hubs)

actaully.. now that i think about it .. thats probably what a 'search bot' does... search your shares for 'copyrighted material' and reports it..

well, any suggestions on stopping that from happening, if i was still using a public hub to get some stuff taht wasnt copyrighted...

Actually that shit happenned to me but I just got some gay ass warning from paramount my ISP didnt even reallly care. I use to use DC++ but it slow as hell and u have to share alot of stuff to get into a decent hub, Also u can share legit shit like windows and other stuff bc ulll get booted and since u have to have alot of slot open u open to some gay ass bots. If I was u I would tell ur ISP to fuck themselves and go with someone else. That what I would do :). The funny thing the file I suppose to have I never actually had.
