I woke up in the middle of the night because I hear my windows shutdown noise (which is appropriately homer simpson saying: All this computer hacking is making me thirsty!) so I was like ... huuuuuh?

I went over and it rebooted before my eyes, killing azureus and terraim (IM client) ... so when it came back it was some stupid windows update thing that did it. So I want to know:

I've disabled windows updates completely so now I have to do them manually: will this stop this madness?

well, you get what you pay for... *except on my server*

I would never, ever use any automatic crap updates, so I wouldn't know. I want to control what goes into my machine and what doesn't, and I don't want it to be doing some uncontrollable shit while I'm doing something important. :)

the default for windows to apply updates is 3am change it from "apply updates automatically" to "tell me when updates are ready to be installed"

then you can restart when it is convenient

The only thing I allow to auto update is my antivirus software.

I've always had Windows Update set to: noitfy me when updates are ready, but do not download or install them. I personaly like to know when and what software is going on to my machine, plus I don't want to update if I'm in the middle of dowloading something.

Windows is really pushing the automatic update feature lately espicially post-SP2 makes me wonder really... Some folks have a problem with windows firewall autoenabling I almost wonder if there isnt some silent auto enabled automatic updates that will soon follow as well.
