I just have to wonder who still uses edonkey2000 network (any program).

Reason I wonder is because I don't know of many link sites anymore. they all seem to be gone. ed2k seems to be being ran over by bittorrent..

ed2k still seems popular but. Do us knowledgable p2p users still use it?

I do. just when I can't get what I need off bittorrent though.

That is about the only really appealing thing about edonkey....is for rare files you cannot get anywhere else. Other than that, I don't know about anybody else, but the speeds suck for me. I only use it when I need to find content unavailable elsewhere.

I use aMule a lot (or, on the rare occasion I'm in Windows, I use eMule). I usually don't use it for individual tracks, but I find it's great for album wraps that I can't find a torrent for. I'm actually dling a wrap as we speak!

yes i do still use it

as a matter of fact check it out

http://www.kltforums.com/?showtopic=3847

some sites:
filehash.com
sharethefiles.org
findhash.com

but to be honest i find what i need most times in ed2k lite search.

what are you looking for??

Oryx
February 7th, 2005, 08:27 PM
the reason the hash sites have gone down is because bitorrent is better for releases but in the long run the files just shiver up and die unlike edonkey the files stay for a long time

Even if emule or edonkey has it.. WHo can possibly get the entire file without having a long ass queue and random pauses along the time the file is downloading little by little.. even with a 1000 sources, a 1000 sources on bit torrent gets you the file in matter of minutes. NoT Days!

What does it really matter? I mean if your getting a hard to find file whats the rush? The network is for finding rare files not the latest thing as you'll see on BT. I don't know why people have problems with waiting for good shit. Anyway both these programs are a good way of getting sued. Very unsafe by any standards. Trouble is coming (dont say nothing MI! I know I keep saying it) for BT users. I see criminal charges in some seeders future. Its so tempting to use but we should all know better.

eMule is still good for one thing: small files. Unlike BitTorrent, eMule offers up downloads that can be searched through the interface. I think people looking for movies or albums have switched over, but the people looking for one song, really like eMule. It is slower, but its trial and error finding the songs there. Once you have them, the file integrity is usually good.

So are you saying that you use Freenet, MUTE, Ants like programs only?

BT seeders aren't the only ones being sued. They sued a grandmother that didn't own a computer and was already dead.

I still use it every now and again with shareaza, mainly to find the old types of music or when you want a film that maybe only a few people have..! I still find it a valuable source, just like gnutella2!

Dude, why do you type like that? It's really a strain on the eyes to read! Doesn't typing like that make it a little bit awkward!

eMule. I get all my releases from it. I'm not really worried about speed. I think with the advent of anonymous P2P, if it ever comes to be, you're all going to see a massive drop in speed. I got used to non-fasttrack speeds a long time ago. I don't need a movie in five minutes. I can wait, especially for a quality file.

Music, on the other hand, comes from somewhere else entirely..

Usually.

I dont think the files shiver up and die Oryx, some BT sites have it last 662 hours, and after that, the window is closed. But sites do have a request feature and reseed feature. 662 hours and usually 4000 snatches, meaning 4000 people who may share it on various other networks, and its a wildfire effect. Speed is everything when downloading a file, if your going slow as hell. Your clogging the network. You obtain the whole file, you upload to others, downloading pieces and sending out various peices is relentless. Imagine on BT, using superseed mode to send out one part of the file you hashed. maybe 2600 parts. 2600 pieces get uploaded to maybe 5max people at 50kbs. For them to get another piece of it, they have to share within the peer group and send data back that the file has been sent.. And your searching is on a website, so no various searches to slow down a decentralized server or to clog any network connections.

i find myself going through monthly phases switching between edonkey and BT. i havent really been into anything new lately(june'll be a good month, i think), but if i need something from edonkey i usually check out sharemanija.net. it used to be linkomanija and it's still updated constantly. i'm quite surprised it's still alive, actually. maybe it has to do with their location(i think it's a polish site).

The main program I use, I don't do near the downloading I use too, is an open nap client on a private server. Only people who rip movies are allowed in, and only after they have proved themselves to the server admin. Its still not 100% safe but close. There are only about 150 or so people in the group and I've known most everyone there for a long time.

Sometimes I try out other clients just to see how they work but never spend any amount of time on them. I like to stay as safe as I can. To me its safer to rent and rip than anythng else.

I use the Overnet part of the network. Occasionally I will use the hybrid version of edonkey to get the rest of a file and spread it to the Overnet Network if a full source can not be found. I have to say, great recent/new movies, and nearly everything else & great speeds for me also.
