neewbies thoughts so far...

If I'm using Lwire what stops me accidentelly visiting the bad-big-boys' sites, or from them purposefully visiting my shared folder and finding that I'm spraying their products around for free...

...peergurdian and/or protowall. This will deal with none dynamic ips..ok but peergurdian is heavy on cpu cycles and protowall is not stable enough for my liking..
But these products are simple a type of firewall surely? so can't I simply use the ip block lists available and put these in LWire or even my own firewall, sygate?

Then what about the ips that are dynamic. I mean how much do you have to dowload or upload before you get prosecuted..and why did this not happen when we all taped stuff for each other - I don't see the distinction between taping and p2p sharing.

Well, the distinction between taping and p2p sharing is that with p2p, you can get caught. That's the biggest one.

And, currently, the RIAA is only suing people who are sharing 700+ songs. Not to say it's impossible to get in trouble for sharing less, but it's pretty unlikely.

And yeah, you can put ip block lists into other firewalls. The only problem I've found is that sometimes, it can cause programs to run slowly.

Truth is, if you're really concerned about getting caught, switch to something really safe, like newsgroups. WIth newsgroups, you're not required to share anything (and it's not looked poorly upon by the file sharing community, either).

hehe if your so worried about getting caught then just dont do P2P or forum your own network of trusted people in an IRC channel or something .... You made a couple of post and all of them were about odds of catching a lawsuit...

Theres more anonymous programs out there but you will sacrafice speed and the amount of content available if you wanna have the extra added security.
