Hey...I have been stumped for the first time copying a DVD. I know I can't mention the name of it, but it is a brand new release in stores. I tried Xcpoy, dvd shrink, roxio, and Clone DVD, but it just won't copy. I tried copying only the movie thinking that it was too large, nope! It gets to 18% and freezes with all different software. Has anyone else seen this that could offer some help? I had no problem copying my other movie the same day...it was just one movie specifically that just won't go.
TIA

I've heard of that problem, had it myself. I did not however end up finding a work around because I had got them from a different source.
I also would like to mention that Spiderman 2 and the Bourne Supremacy are great movies.
Now back to the subject: There are some threads that are related to your issue...Google the title and the program, and that usually will point u to the right place.

I just tried out AnyDVD + CloneDVD (www.slysoft.com (http://www.slysoft.com)) -they offer free 21 day trials and I was even able to copy stuff that had been previously copied with DVDXCOPY, and it removed the start-up banner and was infinitely reproducable after that. Even on newer DVDs with advanced copy protection.
By the way, has everyone seen The Forgotten? I thought is was a great flick!! Check it out!

DVD decryptor the updated version fixes this issue...
What happens is the discs are sector protected so DVD decryptor inserts dummie sectors into these sectors to make the rip.
One of the movies that was a recent and widely owned or ripped film was Resident Evil 2 apocalypse.
There is even more woes if you try to encode it later on you must create your own D2V file starting from when you first see picture using DG index otherwise you will have an out of sync movie... And you also in DG index must convert your audio to WAV then manually run it through BeSweet to encode to mp3... Now your ready to run it through Gordian Knot .32 beta using the DivX codec if you have a set top divx player because 8 of 10 movies with the new XviD 1.0.3 codec seem to not want to play in most set top divx players... However contrary to popular belief after running lots of tests I have found that Divx does show better results in scope to filesize to quality ratio. Espically the pro version.
I liked to use XviD because it was open source too bad the movies encoded by this for the most part are unplayable but in respect to DivX networks they will have to keep there codec within the same setting because they now have liscensing deals with big name set top manufactures not to mention the quality seems a bit better.

If you didnt resolve the issue there is a program that allows you to tell what type of encryption is on the dvd.
Its called DVDInfo
Heres some backround information on it
DVDInfo gives various information for DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW Media and Burners and DVD-ROM players. Change DVD+R/W bitsetting/booktype. DVD Read check, DVD Speed test and much more useful CD/DVD stuff.
get the download here
http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=DVDInfoPro
btw i did recall you saying that it wouldnt even read the dvd.
there is one other solution i am thinking about how to resolve it. there is a tool that can read dvds information speed or something, but i have forgotten the name of it. i am sure it will i will figure it out tho man.

Is it okay to mention a DVD title if we can all assume it's one we already own and have purchased with real money that once filled out our wallets?
Just curious. It's how it's done at doom9 and afterdawn.

You should be able to mention the title as long as you refer it as 'backing up' your own copy.

You can use Nero to copy dvds that have been burned with xcopy. Nero doesnt care, and it also removes the banner at the beginning, fast too.

I am still having trouble with this shit! All the usual software like, DVD Shrink, XCopy, CloneDVD, DVD Decrypter, ANyDVD and so on, have failed me. Can anyone walk me through this frustration? Can you recommend an all-in-one software that works or even a two part one that does in fact work? It has only been in the past month or so that I have been having trouble burning DVD's or should I say copying them. What is wrong with the old software? Between XCopy and DVD Shrink I never use to have any problems. Please help me...what about you CJ, any suggestions?

I agree, but as I mentioned just above, that ain't cuttin it. I have tried every damn software tool I can find and nothing is working anymore. I have two brand new movies that I want to back up. One of them after struggling for a couple of hours I was able to copy with DVD Cloner ll. All the other software would not work for it! I was only able to capture the main movie too. It had a directors cut which I would have also liked to have. I want to know why DVD shrink isn't doing it these days. Does anyone know? I am also wondering if I may have a hardware problem???? It has worked well for everything else. I have only noticed this recently with new DVD releases, but could it be hardware though??

There are so many variables with DVD copying. From your postings, it seems that you can't even get a copy on your hard drive, never mind burning it. As mentioned, try a different copy of the DVD, if that's possible, or clean it thoroughly, and even try a different drive if you have one. If you use DVD Decrypter (it's free; no need to pay for this stuff unless you want to donate), you can post the log in the DVD Dectypter support forum (Google it...I don't like putting in links in my postings), they will tell you what the problem is and possible solutions. There is a recently released version of DVD Decrypter. Are you using the most recent one? My procedure is as follows: 1. Decrypt with DVD Decrypter, 2. use DVD Shrink, and 3. then use Image Tool and DVD Decrypter to burn. I've had near perfect results. Usually if there's a problem it's the media. All of the software I just mentioned is available free (but you can donate if you wish) in the DVD Decrypter forum. No offense to Zeropaid, but you're really in the wrong place for this. Go to DVD Decrypter support forum. I've found them extremely helpful.

@ racknrail: If the movie youre trying to copy is the same as the one in the link you provided, they told you wrong, or at least the hard way to do it. Just use DVD decryptor ( new version ) to rip it to your hard drive in file mode ( not ISO ). It will make a video_ts file that DVD shrink ( also new version ) will then easily back up to disc of your choice. Ive used this method to successfully back up many of the new dvds out with the new fangled copy protection. You can get the new version of dvd shrink and dvddecryptor at afterdawn.com. You see, I thought it was my software that was the problem, so I downloaded everything I could find that would decrypt, shrink and burn dvd's including clonedvd2. You see, I thought it was my software that was the problem, so I downloaded everything I could find that would decrypt, shrink and burn dvd's including clonedvd2. Let me know if you need any software. I am happy to share what I have.
heh i remember the problem you have, right now i am just going to drop my dvd to mpeg *vcd or something*.
i almost looking to buy a new dvd player again, *has several*
but i want one that supports divx, xvid.
just going to wait for suggestions and do my research again.
thanks for askin about whether i need something * will let u know if i do * :)
just tryin to switch up alittle.
i am glad it worked out for you, right now i have no problems ripping any dvds what so ever, i sort of had one problem, and it had to do with cylic redudancy, i resolved it by using my dvd rom
my dvd writer couldnt decrypt it *the dvd * but my dvd rom was able too.
:)
i hope to not have problems ripping my dvds.
;)
any guides or programs anyone likes for dvd to vcd post away, my current dvd driver doesnt support kvcd from what i read, so i cant use that.
peace

peaceI could use a new dvd-rom drive myself. Mine is only a 5X reader. I usually use my writer to read dvd's.
I need to know more about DMA/PIO settings. I have had trouble with my tv tuner and these settings. Seems to work okay now, but I still can't get my tv tuner to work with IE or my guide plus. I have tried various help sites. I think my hardware may be the problem, again.

new issue about ripping a dvd. hmm
seems the cyclic redudancy crap is starting up.
hmm
i need to subscribe to this thread or bookmark it hard to find it.
anyways if anyone wants to know the dvd just pm me.
i am reading over on these 2 forums for some answers.
*just to summarrize*
my issue is that the dvd will rip 53 percent, anydvd will find 5 bad sectors, but still issue occurs where it retries to correct the problem via dvd decrypter.
I figure maybe i will have to change the dvd decrypter settings or what not.
personally i think this sucks.
hmm
on a side note here are the forums
to read about issues concerning some of the newer dvd issues.

When that happens, clean the CD well, and try again
If it still happens, try DVDecryptor, and if it still happens, ask for a replacement CD, and get one thats less buggered

Since there is a lot of relevant information spread through many posts, it might help some people if I summarize:
------------------------------------
DVD Copying Troubleshooting:
Hardware
Is the disc dirty?
Do you have the newest firmware on your DVD drive?
Is your DVD drive an old piece of shit?
Software
Do you have the newest version of Nero?
Do you have the newest version of DVD Shrink?
Do you have the newest version of AnyDVD?
If you can pass all of the troubleshooting steps above, there's a 99% chance you have a defective or damaged disc that you need to exchange.
I recommend AnyDVD over DVD Decryptor because it circumvents copy protection on-the-fly. It saves a lot of time when you don't have to copy a DVD to the hard drive first.
