Hi everybody.
I've been using eMule for quite a bit (almost a year), and it has been working fine for me until now. I guess I already uploaded and downloaded around 100GB from then on.
Even though I never could stablish a High ID connection, my average download rates stayed around 15KB/s. This worked fine for me as I stayed connected 24 hours a day, every day.
For about a week, after restarting eMule (I always did that from time to time), my average download rates have been staying around 4KB/s. Although, my average upload rates remain unaltered. So, actually I'm uploading two to three times more data I'm downloading.
Considering I didn't change a thing before restarting eMule, I just can't understand what could have happened.
Is there's someone who can help me?
Thanks for your support.

Go to server windows & remove some of those dead/bad servers from time to time & if you're on broadband keep upload at 12KB or higher will give you unlimited download ratio!

eMule fucking blows!! Its DL speeds totaly suck! I have a T1 connection, and whenever Ive used it, the speeds hover around 2-5kb/s. Screw that, Im stickin with BT. With it my DL speeds can go as fast as 100-750kb/s.
I really dont know why people use Emule, its got to be one of the most shityest P2P programs out there. The only way you can get a somewhat fast DL speed is buy the "Gold" Emule.
Bottom line, Emule fucking blows!

Everyone gets the same advice which slows speeds down.. Limiting your upload.. . I would honestly tell you to change ports on emule as it may be throttled bythe isp.. .then change ports in your windows fireweall, and router.
BT is where its at =) 300kbs downloads is just sweet.

Nonsense Emule was a good application when I used it I used to get 100k a second consistantly 24hrs a day 7 days a week...
You must move the upload slider so that you are uploading your fair share....
The only other thing that I can think of is that since the crashing of a lot of edonkey servers it has caused a slowdown or lack of sourcing for the files I dunno I dont use or test it no more but I know when I did test it it was a dam good program.
Some of the problem though lies in the way they queue up things ... In order to obtain the best results move your download and upload sliders to full boar and let it run for a good hour or two and you should see your downloads all start to speed up and tally up as you will hit the queue spots by then.
Always keep a multiple of downloads going if you download a file at a time it is a slow network however if you download in the relm of 20 files at a time it will keep your downloads flying because the result is just as good this way because you are leaving no bandwidth unused and files will finish in groups its like waking up to a present every day when you got like 4 movies completed to test out to see if there worth purchasing.
Good Luck,

Hi Digital Junkie.
On the Server tab of my eMule preferences I have checked the "Remove dead servers after [1] retries" button. It has been checked since I started using eMule.
My Upload Limit have been always set to 12KB/s also, and I have a 256K connection by the way.
Though I think that's not my problem, I appreciate your help and suggestion.

Hi GateKeeper.
I use eMule because it has been worth using for me (since I use 256K connection, 15KB/s DL rate for me it's fine). I confess since I had this problem I tried different Programs.
I have been told a lot about Bit Torrent, and how good it works, but still I was trying to stick to the Free P2P programs, so I tried iMesh, DC++, Soulseek, WinMX, Shareazaa, Kazaa, Overnet and Morpheus.
Good for me about eMule is that I can really make it work (even though it's slow) and best of all is that his search features are by far the most efficient for me (I usually look for videos and archives). iMesh have been working well also, but I just can't find all the files I look for.
By the way, there's not a Free Bit Torrent version yet, right?
Thank you.

Hi Shawners>
Actually I guess I use the default ports setings eMule creates. On the help section it says it uses for default the ports 4662TCP 4672UDP 4661TCP 4665UDP 4711TCP, although the preferences section shows only two possible ports: one for TCP (4662) and another one for UDP (4672). I confess I'm not familiar with this port settings thing, so I didn't quite understand how to make the changes you suggested. Should I just change the UDP and TCP numbers on the Preferences as well as create rules for those ports on my Firewall?
By the way, I use WindowsXP SP2 built-in Firewall, but I also tried Outpost, Norton, and Zone Alarm. I just couldn't make any of them work fine for me, so as I was able to connect with HighID on eMule.
Oh... sorry my ignorance, but I don' know also what does "isp" means.
Thanks.

Meloso the PM i tried to send you was a bit to big so I posted it here.
Hi Infringer!
I have just read your post about Bit Torrent aon a thread I created.
I downloaded Bit Torrent version 3.4.2 and I was stuck in the donation page... I thought it was possible to use it only making the donation...
I'm reading the FAQ more carefully to see if I can use it correctly...
Can you tell Is it the correct version?
Thank you...
MelosoTo use bit torrent you must have a torrent site link you to the file ....
You should beable to download the program if not you can use bitcomet, burst! or azerus to download torrent files.
Bittorrent is based off of donations you do not have to pay for the program or donate if you dont wish to donate just download the program or download one of the other 3 programs I listed above then do a google search for ".torrent" and you will then find some tracker websites to download from bit torrent is a bit differnt then normal P2P apps because you dont really search for the information the information is relayed using the .torrent files which you download once you installed one of these files then find your torrent site and click on the torrent link.
Its all up to you what you do.
Good luck,

Hi everyone!
Here I am again, and I already tested Bit Torrent.
By now, I already have more of an idea of how BT works. I didn't quite understand everything but I believe I did understand enough to start using it.
Well suited for my newbie needs was Brian's Bit Torrent FAQ and Guide site, which helped me a lot.
As Infringer told me to, I tried Bit Torrent 3.4.2 itself, then Azureus. I dowloaded other BT clients such as BitComet, Burst! and also Bit Tornado, all of which I didn't try yet.
Before using the programs, I read the FAQs and managed to adjust my Windows XP Firewall to forward (both outcoming and incoming) ports that goes in the range from 6881 to 6889.
About BT 3.4.2 (the one that's available for download at the original BT site): I didn't quite make it work properly since I have been getting Tracker error messages that stoped the download, so it seemed stuck for hours long.
About Azureus: I tried it after trying original BT and here's what I got by now: I dowloaded seven different torrent files to download different files. Sizes vary between 2 and 700 MB, seeds vary from 0 to 244 and peers from 0 to 48. I also tried to get different Trackers, so I dowloaded files from mininova, TorrentBox and bt.etree.org.
I was trying to get as accurate as I could be when testing Azureus by adding this different torrents from different Trackers.
Well, I have been running my machine with Azureus turned on for over 14 hours and my traffic speed is still so damn slow: total dowloaded ammount is 7.7MB and upload ammount is even lower (690KB).
So I'm wondering if I have done something wrong... because my average rates with BT are even worse than with my eMule (after decrease).
Note: my eMule speed is still decreasing...(less than 2KB/s average for DL)
Is there's a possibility this has something to do with matters that are not related to my softwares and my machine? Maybe something with the network, or my connection type? Should I make further tests with the other BT Clients?
I am still a little confused...
Thanks everybody for your support.

Try to run your connection in the DMZ with a software firewall and see if that solves the issue or maybe there just isnt the sources for the downloads at the time your downloading your files try a couple of differnt files...
There is also some internet patch you can apply for windows XP SP2 that you can apply you might wanna try that or search to forums or google for more information about it.

Hi Infringer.
Thank you for still helping me up.
Well... about trying different files, I guess I already did that... I tried around 10 different files (different files, different trackers, different sizes, number of seeds, swarms and peers). Do you suggest a larger number of files for testing?
Sorry again, but I don't know what does DMZ means...
And regarding to the Internet Patch you mentioned: why is it for? Has it something to do with testing connection funcionality?
By the way... my eMule has almost stopped. I'm almost giving up on it.
I'm thinking about trying eMule Plus. Do you think it's worth using? I wish I still have a chance to complete everything I partially downloaded with eMule untill now.
Well, thanks a lot again.
