ok so my friend stole my password for my e-mail account and my msn passport. Im guessing he did it in some relation to msn messenger. I looking for someone to shed some light on the situation. Suggestions as to what I can do now and what he may have done.

I did that, back in now. With a new and improved 20 character password of random numbers and letters. Now Im still curious to know how he did it, so I can prevent future invasions. Im also looking at potential revenge tactics, I now a fair bit about pc's and I dont think this crime should go un punished. lol

I could tell you how he did it.. There are programs that are going around that can retrive passwords or break them. And then there are keyloggers.. Maybe a friendly attachment with a keylogger trojan of some sort.

When two computer are on the same subnet, as for gaming etc, all traffic can be sniffed. Hotmail log-in info on the web is initially sent in plain txt. Therefore, I can packet sniff all trafic that crosses my pc, and then read any plain txt such as the login, and pwd, which in a former room mate situation, he used his gf name.
If you use Outlook Express to check your email, that traffic too can be sniffed and read.
ps: Hi Rebirth . . . . stop lurking :D

It is most likely that he used spoofing to get your password. I would go into more details, but the less information that is out there the better off everbody is.

Chances are you "friend" got ahold of your information in this manner a while ago and didnt use it untill now if you use the same password for a message board that is another mistake you might make as I recall a guy from another forum who was a dick head who passed around a whole listing of passwords for the site ....
Problem is that there is always some way to exploit a computer to make it return the results that you want this type of thing will always be around but the real exploiters have been at it for a while and know the system and old system flaws and exploits as well.
I dont know much bout X86 asm but I have read quite a bit about sercurity and such after I got japped my credit card number and my bank account I had no choice but to consider learning how to stay a bit more secure.
Good luck I suggest you ask your friend how and why he did it that'd be the best thing to do.. If he comes to your house pay close attention to what he does on your pc and give em a smack in the back of the head for fuggin with yah lol.

I asked him how he did it and he said he wasnt telling me because he didnt want me to abuse it. I never have people over to my house, except my good buddy LeQuesne and he knows very little about computers so its pretty safe lol. I doubt this kid has huge amounts of experiene, he is only 14 but who knows. He claims he did it simply for fun.

ok well he pulled the last straw today, he sent me a link to my website over msn that was some how infected with something and it started something fortunately I realized my error about .5 seconds after. So I averted any damage, I have since been watching my firewall log for connections from his IP address and I have blocked it. I am now going to send a letter to his ISP complaining, I will use my firewall log as proof. Any suggestions on how to go about writing a complaint.
