Just because there are no posts here yet, I think I will create a topic.

FFXI, do you play it ? Have you played it ?

Yeah, it's ruined my life. 67 Black Mage / 33 White Mage.

I don't expect many people to even respond to this.

I couldnt get over having to pay 15 bucks monthly after buying the 80 dollar game, though I suppose it is different than console because the game itself is always expanding.

also I have heard it does not "feel" like an FF game and thats what would draw me to it if nothing else

You can't use a mod-chip and play online, its one of the other. So I don't play online games.

It's unfortunate, being the FF fan that I am. I just can't see paying that kinda fee. I'll stick with waiting until XII comes out and continue playing my NWN.

I wouldn't like the ps2 version. But the pc version sounds cool. I still don't want to pay for anymore mmo's for a while though. I am currently paying for WOW.

Square Takes Action Against MMORPG 'Gold Farmers'

The practice of "gold farming" has taken a hit in one online game, as Square Enix has banned several hundred accounts in its Final Fantasy XI multiplayer online RPG.

According to 1UP.com, the disappearance of more than a few of Final Fantasy XI's resident gilfarmers (a.k.a. Real Money Traders) suggested a shift in Square Enix's previously lax stance on currency farming in their MMO.

The holiday season saw a massive influx of gil being spent on valuable items, often tripling the price on Auction House and in player's bazaars. While not every gilfarmer/gilseller can be stopped, it's still an encouraging sign for veterans of Square's MMO. Confirming that action has indeed been taken against RMT in FFXI, Square issued a press release which included statements about how the "gilfarming" -- organized efforts to collect as much of the MMORPG's online currency, "gil" -- affected the world's online economy.

I just got the email for a reply to this thread recently. It's funny what happened after Christmas, a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE amount of gil (the currency in FFXI) was thrown into the system by IGE (and other gil selling sites) and utterly destroyed the economy on every FFXI server.

Square has been very very lame about dealing with the situation, but recently some changes have been made. Large amounts of "mules" (characters made simply to hold gil and items) were deleted that held incredible amounts of gil, gil sellers and buyers were banned, and there has begun some kind of monitoring system to check for things like that. In addition, recently Square limited the amount of gil allowed to be transfered through the delivery system to 1mil, where previously there was no limitation.

I suspect that Square has taken action to decrease prices and stabilize the system only because of the influx of Xbox users soon. I believe that under normal circumstances, ie not a large potential user base migrating to the game, they would have left things as is and done nothing.

And yes, I still play this game, lol.

nice! I am level 8 on Odin btw. Yeah having different servers sucks... Is your server really busy? because mine sure isn't. I have only been around bastok but it sure seems underpopulated... well it's not dead quiet, Just not loud :P

FFXI towns are weird. Once you move past a certain level, you stop going to some. Bastok, Windurst, and San d'Oria are really only used by new players, sometimes crafters, and outpost warping. Jeuno used to be the hot spot, and still kind of is, but now most higher level players go to Aht Urgan Whitegate / Al Zahbi.

It also depends on what time you play, either JP primetime or NA primetime.
