They're making the real story of Deep Throat. That will be my new favorite. I don't know if its going to be the fabled "Deeper Than Deep" thats has seemed to have vanished off the radar or another projest.
Its said "The Girl Next Door" is based the real life of Stacey Valantine. Shes sueing the makers for it
Rated X is cool too. Its about the Mitchell Brothers who produced a lot of early porn classics.
I can't get enough of porn history.

The Matrix,
Though not exactly real it does have some definate relations to life though a little more over the edge then real life I think the real message behind what happens in the matrix throught the course of the movie you could relate certian principals not exactly as they are put but in a differnt manner it is quite like what real life is... But if real life was that I want a dam matrix chair...

Midway's alright.. it uses a lot of stock footage and has a lot of cheesy Charleton Heston saving the day.
Tora Tora Tora is fairly unique as it shows both sides of the attack, using an American and Japanese director respectively.
I like war movies, but they almost always show any combatants on the opposite side of the country who produced the film as slimy evil bastards.
I prefer to see soldiers portrayed as soldiers, regardless of their nationality. Cases in point: Das Boot, Tora Tora Tora, The Thin Red Line (1998).

maybe it was based on a true story... but I think in the movie alot of things were embellished.

My point was that the Japanese in that movie were portrayed as humans, which is rare in American movies depicting WWII.
The film (both the original and remake) is based on one soldier's autobiography of the battle for Guadalcanal. Most of the situations shown (Capt. gaff taking the hill bunkers, Capt. Staros refusing direct suicidal orders, Sgt. Keck blowing himself up with a grenade) really happened.
If anything is embellished, it's the artistic film making style. It's been described as a "war poem", and there's quite a bit of symbolism involved.
It goes beyond the typical war movie in many ways.

well the things that made miday and tora, tora, tora 2 of my fav's was that they stuck to what really happened in true life without all that garbage they threw in to the more recent peal habor movie and showing the japan as more human than just enemies was a great touch.

Damn there was this movie with Christopher Walken and he is a father in upstate new york. (I Think)
Aliens keep visiting his family up at the cabin and I think it was based on actual accounts of a guy who claims it happened to him. Real or No it was a good movie....(I guess not if it's not a real movie)
Anyone know what movie I am talking about?

O.k I am determined to find out what the hell this movie is called and who plays in it.
A family has a cabin in a nice rual area, maybe maine or upstate new york.
The story I am pretty sure focuses around the father who knows his family is being visited.
Its winter and I remember in repeated scenes he actually goes to the ship and meets a few "greys"
including a tall alien. cool thoughtful shit is revealed and then the movie ends.
I can only hope someone here knows what
I am talking about (I am thinking Mel?)

Braveheart, Pearl Harbor, Matrix, Rambo III?! Where's the culture in this forum?
How can anybody fail to mention The Bridge on the River Kwai? Regarded as on of the best films ever made. Showing the great spirit and "stiff-upperlippedness" of the British.
And just to show I'm not anti-yank in anyway, how about Patton, one of your great WWII Generals.
Another David Lean classic, Lawrence of Arabia, again, considered one of the best films ever made.
And if you're looking for a more darker side to humanity then check out Men Behind The Sun.
