Ok.. i bought a computer a few months back and have now over 3 thousand mp3s, various dvd rips etc.. the computer has serious problems.. overheating which leads to random shutdowns ( laptop )... very long cracks in the case from overtigtened hinges..and a screwd up wireless card.....sooo i need to trade it in.. i was wondering if i have anything to worry about with my mp3s n rips... my problems doubled today when my power supply died, and i realized i only have a few minutes of battery life...so i cant even reformat.. n e input?

There's no reason to worry. You're not going to get in trouble unless you've got kiddie porn, which I'm assuming you don't.
The worst that could happen is that they reformat the HD and you lose everything. So back 'em up.
I know for a fact that a lot of repair techs liberally browse hard drives that don't belong to them. It's best to back up anything personal and then erase it from your drive.

Yeah any personal stuff erase ...
Hell leave the movies or music on there let the techs get some free movies and mp3's or send the hard drive my way heh j/k I got my fair share of stuff already heh.
Best bet is to go on ebay
Buy and external drive case USB2.0
Slap the drive in the case and use it on your next pc or at a friends PC incase you ever wanna burn some of your music off of there...
There pretty cheap actually get a 3.5 external USB2.0 case and save your stuff.
