Forever and ever.
Just make sure the case is free of dust and crap... your fans and CPU heatsink too.

Celerons, while not the fastest CPUs, are very cool running, and long lived. Like you were told, just keep things free from dust.

How often do you turn it off and for how long?
Have you ever taken it apart and blown out the inside with compressed air?
Generally, except for the occasional reboot, mine is never shut off.

Since I've been on broadband, I leave mine on for 2-3 days at a time. Just leave Ares and DC open for anybody who wants anything.

just blow the dust out of it every once in a while, and it'll run for years.

I've had mine on for probably a month at a time with no reboot. I've never kept track, but I'm sure well over 30 days has gone by with no downtime.

CPU, tell him so he knows, those things are pretty much tanks, arnt they? PS Im still running that old 950 Cell, and the temp hardly ever goes over 30 Cel.

i have several computers that have had uptimes well over 100 days. the only reason they ever have gone down is for configuration changes, or hardware upgrades. and one time i accidentally hit the power button.

Personally theres a problem with my system not being able to shut itself down, without just holding the power button, windows is crap... So lately I've only restarted occasionaly because of some RAID drivers and other new programs, windows patches, etc....
I think my record uptime was about 50 days before, and it restarted because the house lost power, otherwise I would have waited longer. A celeron won't overheat unless you take the heatsink and fan off of it and leave it runnig. Otherwise, don't worry about it.

I usually leave mine on for 24 hours or so before I get antsy and leave it off for a few hours. sometimes when I'm at school I'll turn it off ... I have this neato exhaust pipe thing to keep the dust out but I do take a peek inside and clear it of dust bunnies every so often.

I bought a PS with intake and exhaust fans, it really helps keep everything cool and made my PC a lot more stable. Of course the power upgrade had a lot to do with that. I think people often over look the importance of a Strong quality power supply.
Reboots and upgrades withstanding, my computers been on 2 years now. Why turn it off? Thats no good. Forget about it. Computers are made to stay on. It will shut itself off when its had enough, trust me.

Gosh, I never turn mine off, unless, I see a storm brewing up. I reboot every so often though. I do clean them out once every 6 months or so. I also use an APC battery backup which will shut the computer down when I'm not home in case of a storm.

Then as far as your pc burning it looks like you really have nothing to worry about unless you soak your pc with gasoline and strike a match. Then it's burn, baby burn.

Geez, if I had an hour limit again I would go mad. Dial up causes "computer rage" in me anyway, so i stay away or I have rising anger. "I don't know Karate but I know crazy." - James Brown

well, on simple days (from monday till friday) from 8a.m. till 5 p.m. the internet isnt free for me... so, I have turn off pc. If had free internet all the time - I would leave pc on 4 ever.
Just disable your network connection or pull out the cable...turn off your modem. You can still have your computer on...just not connected to the internet.

I have 1000MGHz Celeron.
Dude..if you have a 1000 Mega-Gigahertz processor, you better have a shitload of fans or that will burn up immediately! :cross

I have a p4 1.8 ghz Mine is up 24\7 365. It only goes off if the power goes out. I file share constantly. I defrag all three of my hard drives every month and reformat the drive the operating system is on about once or twice a year. Everything runs great.

A billion times a billion.... your neighborhood would vaporize. I think space and time would bend and you'd get to meet yourself as a fetus.
Aliens would send terminators through a vortex to stop you from incinerating the galaxy with the destruction of a million super novas.
.. but you would get some KICK ASS frame rates on Quake, dude. Do it!
Oh yeah, forgot what I was gonna say.. my P4 2.6 is on 24/7, encoding DVDs with DVD Rebuilder and CCE 6 passes. I've got an 80 mm intake and an 80 mm outtake fan, plus a 500W power supply with intake/outtakes. I don't know the CPU temp, but I'm sure it's toasty despite the airflow. That's some serious number crunching going on in there.

There is currently an 8,000GHZ processor but due to the current restraints of technology in the security area and the lack there of a OS and supporting hardware it will be used for DSP applications... Not to mention it would break every current know forum of cryptology factoring for prime numbers would be nothing but a matter of a short period of time breaking any and every source of security currently implemented in a bruteforce manner with very little time or team effort.

The celleron runs at a much lower temp, as it will not handle as many processes at once as other CPUs. This is mainly because it has a smaller cache than the other ones. For most people it has more than enough power. The higher speed AMD, and Pentium CPUs handle more processes at once with their larger memory cache, and generate more heat. When you have a CPU fan failure with some of these it can disasterous. Hope this helped, and that I got it correct.

they were joking. the abbreviation for megahertz is MHz, rather than MGHz (as you typed it)...MGHz implies Mega-Gigahertz, i suppose.

My apologies. It was funny at the time
I am sure after a significant amount of time, it could burn without proper maintenance. Overly dusty interior with clogged or failing fans, damage could happen. Some systems shut down after reaching a certain temperature. But it seems that, for the most part, leaving the computer on with a good preventative maintenance plan won't cause it to burn.
I heard the new AOL computer is the way to go.

I've had my P4 2.4ghz on for up to 3 weeks at a time. No harm done from what I can tell.
