So I thought I'd get off my ass and try Ares.
I followed the link in ZeroPaid's file sharing portal and started to download the app when Kaspersky Anti Virus told me "setup_ares.exe.nv is infected with a virus".
I read in another old thread that there's adware in the new version. Can anyone confirm this and if so, can it be easily cleaned up with spyware tools?
I just want some input before I go any further.

The only thing I know of you have to watch out for is just opt out of installing Navhelper during the install. Personally its my main filesharing program, and I have never had any problems with it.

Is the Ares site. But when you are installing it, opt out of NavHelper. It's the only spyware in Ares.

to be whooly honest with you i use KCEASY with the ares plugin and it still delivers all the content of that network without any spywear or adware issues. I don't usually plug clients but when kceasy .015 comes out it will include the new ares plugin and when GIFT 12 comes out many other netwoirks will be able to plugin to Kceasy so i'd stay tuned if I where you. Give kceasy a try with the ares plugin and if your a real glutton theres a fastrack and gnutella plugin as well..

Used to be.
There are 3 optional adware/spyware objects now.

Sweet. Thanks for the expedient replies.
I dont' flip out or anything if I think I have a virus or mal/adware... but I'm pretty cautious.

Well I gave it a try myself and thought I was using kazaa again. I do have to admit the searches were very quick as well as the downloads. I just wonder how secure it actually is? I also found it difficult to find albums but single mp3s plentiful. I also dl'ed a movie around 635mb in just a couple of hours, was never able to do that with kazaa. Oh well, just my opinion. I'll most likely keep using it.

I got a couple tracks faster than I could on SoulSeek.
Definately not crap, but I wish there were some DVD-Rs. I know if I'm looking for an older mpeg4 release that's where I'll check.

Right now this Plugin is a Leecher Tool only...until they get it fixed, it cannot Upload or be a SuperNode.
I've been with Ares since the beginning, use the real Client if you can.......

Same here. Sometimes when u opt out the installer will still add the addware. So just go to ad and remove programs and its gone. It the best program and I use it all the time.

Everyone, what types of files do you usually download with Ares?
What type of file would you say is the most abundant?

I doubt Navhelper sends any data - it's just a buggy BHO I think that basically takes over 404 pages on Internet Explorer, that's all.
It's a pain in the ass - but all you gotta do is make sure you uncheck it during installation.
