Can anyone help me please im running winXP and everytime i leave my computer downloading it will just restart and when i get back into windows it asks if i want to send a report to microsft. The P2P programs i use are DC++, Direct Connect, WinMx and Kazaa Lite, Direct Connect seems fine and i can leave it on for a couple of days but the rest usually after a couple of hours just make my computer restart, is there anyway of looking at the report and seeing what is going wrong and how do i look at the report?

it should tell you what application causes the crash.. try looking at the technical details and see where the crash occured.

As for the culprit i think its Direct Connect.. The "offical" verison which is over a year old has alot of bugs in it. If you leave it running for days like you it will start to use 100% cpu and stay like that.. Programs like kazaa and some others gobble up alot of CPU resources when left on for extended periods of time also.

I actually came on to ask this very same thing, i aslo have this same problem but only with winmx and kazaa and not edonkey dont use dc.
Someone tell me that this happens beacuse the Pc has been hacked :( can this also be possiblity.

no you didnt get hack, u must have very little ram *also known as memory*.
or u may have open lots of programs, or multi_tasking*
u should tried to make sure, that if ya using a p2p program, u dont have to much running.
the culprit can also be anything u least expect. windows requires the rebooting of the operating system after a while.
anything can cause your computer to restart.
hmmm quick note *ram*

I also have zone alarm running and norton anti virus, am fairly sure im not getting hacked and for some reason i do feel like its a ram problem but i would of thought 512 would of been enough, when this happens to me i dont run anything apart from the p2p program, antivirus and firewall, also lately have been getting this blue screen error message come up
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer... etc

I be seriously thinking about getting rid of windows all together and maybe trying Mandrake Linux, the only prob with that maybe that i not able to then use any windows programs like winmx , also beside edonkey there no good P2P for linux.

I not sure fella why you want to change, only you will know answer to that but for me it is because i bloody sick of windows all together now. I got many more problems with winxp other than one i think is down to p2p progs i has installed.
I know someone who using linux and he seem to be able to do same what he do on windows....i think.

Btw has you maybe just let the error report go to microsoft so they can tell you what wrong, just a suggestion but this may actually work for you, also is you running dodgy copy of xp or legal one as this may also be why you has problems.

The problem is that your running programs which werent made to run 24/7 and are resource hogs and are buggy which is what is causing that error.

That and you using a AMD cpu which AMDs were not ment to be used in high stress enviroments. LIke running it at 100% for a long time. That and they have a slower FSB than intels.

I suggest you cut back on to one or two programs you leave running 24/7 that and update windows and your software if you havent allready.

Switching you OS isnt going to help and if it does itd only be because you couldnt run the program causing the bug anymore..

But i dont understand why can Direct Connect run for long amounts of time and i know direct connect is cpu hungry because it does lock up briefly, I would of thought DC++ would of been better because it is a cut down version? And so basically what your trying to tell me is to upgrade my processsor to a new intel?

AMD cpu not meant to be used in high stress enviroment and for long time you say, is this even true plz or is you now just making things up fella, this guy prob thinking to change to intel and get more mem now..............what next.

Also how is running few apps make it high stress?

Even i confuse now.

Since your DC & eDonkey runs fine on your computer system, I would think you need to adjust settings for bandwidth to conserve cpu resources. In WinMX, try connect as secondary connections & limiting upload/download bandwidth. In Kazaa, do the same things (not allowing your computer to be become a Ultrapeer server) & uncheck the box for max. performance while computer is idle! Play with those settings, see that helps or not!

No what im telling you is to NOT USE THOSE CPU INTENSIVE PROGRAMS 24/7 like DC. Even if you had a intel if you ran a poorly made program like DC 24/7 it would also eventually lock up your PC.. The problem is your running both DC and DC++.. Which in your last post you said DC locks up which is probably were all the problems are coming from. Why because DC is a poorly made program.. DC++ might be better coded so it might not lock up your computer..

So the solution is to quit running DC 24/7 and either try a clone or not run it at all. Also like i posted in my last post you might want to cut back on some of the other programs your trying to run 24/7 also so you dont run out of computer resources.

DC is not the problem though, although it can freeze for a couple of seconds it does run all night long, where as the other programs like, Kazaa Lite, DC++ and winmx all restart my computer after just a short while even when running them on there own, i will have to play with the settings as DigitalJunkie suggested.
Thanks
