Dave Mustaine, via his official website Megadeth.com, has posted a New Year’s greeting with the forthcoming plans for Megadeth. He and his band plan to tour Europe, possibly Japan and Australia, with a “victory lap” around the US. He’s is calling 2005, Megadeth’s 20th anniversary, the last year for the band…
Here’s the posting straight from Mr. Mustaine:
“Droogies!
“While 2005 brought much suffering and sadness to many people at its end, I hope for most of us here that were separated from such tragedy, that you had a terrific 2004.

I think he's on crack again. 2005 hasn't quite ended yet.
Don't let the door hit your ass, Dave.

Be a shame for me if they disbanded. One less thrash metal band to listen to that still produces thrash, unlike that other band whose name begins with M :p

I've always favored Megadeth over Metallica. "Rust in Peace" is, IMO, the best Metal album of all time.
I'm sad to hear of this news.

Honestly man Rust in peace and countdown to extinction are two of the best albums in heavy metal but Megadeth ran out of steam along time ago.

Perhaps, but at least they stayed true to who they are. They never released an album as bad as Saint Anger.
I have always had a soft spot Megadeth, and I even like some of there new stuff. I for one will be sad to see them go.

I hate to tell you but going by this Megadeth is disbanded.

While on break from touring, Dave Mustaine suffered a serious injury in January 2002 while staying in Texas. He was diagnosed with having radial neuropathy shortly thereafter, a condition that prevented him from playing guitar. The compressed radial nerves in his left arm and hand were strained, leaving Megadeth little recourse but to disband in April 2002, after almost 20 years in the music industry.
I just sorry to say this but there isn''t going to be another Megadeth CD release.

RE-disbanded.
ATM, and through 2005, (Mustaine's) Megadeth is a reality. The old news post ended up being inaccurate as the band banded back together for The World Needs A Hero and The System Has Failed, both of which I highly enjoy and recommend. At this time. it pretty much only boils down to Mustaine. Ellefson is off doing F5 and the rest were just a mish-mosh of collaberators. Nothing will beat the lineup with Friedman and Menza.
I've been with this band since about '86. I will be saddened the day it is announced that Megadeth is no more.
I truly hope it was not because the system had failed.

Having just listened to the remaster of Cryptic Writings, it is another remaster that pisses me off. I always thought to remaster was to rework the sound for clarity not rewrite the album like dave did with this. Sure the remaster is sonically better but it is no longer the original material. When you speed shit up and slow shit down and remove shit entirely then it ain't what it was. FUCK.

He has had his act cleaned up for quite a while now, although it seemed his creativity lessened as his usage did. For the past two years I figured he'd been going pretty well. Handling Gigantour seems to be going good. Maybe you guys just need to play catch up on MegaDave.

Megadeth was good in the eighties and nineties.. but High Speed Dirt off countdown to extinction was awesomem, bought the import long ago. .I like Iron Maiden alot better but Megadeth was just annoying at times.. I guess they didnt bang out as many hits as the other metalist.

It was a trade-off. Maiden had their heydey. I would say that when No Prayer for the Dying (possibly even Seventh Son of a Seventh Son), they went downhill. Bruce Dickinson's solo albums were lukewarm and Blaze Bayley, the replacement on The X-Factor, was pretty much teH sucK.
IMO, Megadeth never really slowed down until Cryptic Writings[/i, ] and [i]Risk was a dismal failure. While they appeared to be on a comeback with the last two studio albums, it seems at this time there will be no chance of resurrection. Yeah, the music is still good, but they are no longer on top. Time to retire and let the "New Wave" take the helm.

I actually saw them earlier this year on Gigantour (along with Dream Theater, who kicked ass!) and they were great. Dave's new guitar and amp setup sounded friggin awesome. And Megadeth is not disbanding. Dave had been toying with the idea of going solo (even though thats pretty much all the band has been for the past several years, MegaDave!), but has decided to keep it with Megadeth.

Megadeth and Capitol/EMI to Release Arsenal of Megadeth, a Two-Disc DVD Anthology Spanning Band's Career of Metal Mastery
New DVD Set Contains Nearly Three Hours of Footage, Including Music Videos and 32 Previously Unreleased Live Performances, Home Video and Interviews
In Stores: March 21, 2006
HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Jan. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Megadeth has teamed with Capitol Records/EMI Music Catalog Marketing to unleash Arsenal of Megadeth, a new comprehensive two-disc DVD collection available March 21. A visual career anthology containing 32 previously unreleased clips, Arsenal of Megadeth chronicles the rise and evolution of the band, providing fans with a heavy metal armory of music videos, interviews, home video shot by Megadeth's own Dave Mustaine and hidden tracks. Clocking in at almost three hours, Arsenal of Megadeth's tracklist was personally compiled by Mustaine, ensuring the ultimate head-hammering Megadeth experience.
Following the 2005 release of Megadeth's Greatest Hits: Back to the Start CD and deluxe CD/DVD collections of singles and fan favorites, Arsenal of Megadeth provides fans with the most in-depth look ever provided into the band's storied history. In addition to 20 of the band's music videos, Arsenal contains a bevy of career-spanning previously unreleased material, including behind the scenes audition footage, a 1995 band appearance on MTV's "Most Wanted," a clip of Dave Mustaine's guest appearance on "The Drew Carey Show," and concert footage from 2005's GIGANTOUR -- essential cuts for every Megafan.
In 2005, Megadeth was the headbanging, headlining act of Dave Mustaine's GIGANTOUR, a tour founded on the principles of "fan-friendly" pricing and accessibility to the music. Mustaine's vision for GIGANTOUR was to "put together a festival that consisted of positive bands that play heavy music in a high energy environment." 2005's inaugural GIGANTOUR did just that and was an immense success. Arsenal of Megadeth contains previously unreleased concert footage from the tour, including a live performance of Megadeth's metal anthem, "Peace Sells."
