So sorry if this questions seems absurd, I am doing research and am new to the whole P2P thing.

I was wondering how most P2P applications handle prioritization based on making files available others to download- e.g. treating you better because you're a good P2P citizen.

Is it based on how much your stuff gets downloaded or how much you make available? What about quality? I don't need a dissertation or anything, just a quick explanation of the basics.

Thanks in advance and I apologize again if the question is a little dumb.

I think it's on a first come first serve bases to keep thing simple, but I could be wrong.

Well on ed2k it's, "the more you give the more you get."

On bittorrent it's, "you keep on gettin as long as you keep on givin"

On Gnutella it's, "first come first serve"

On Ares it's, "first come first serve"

On soulseek it's, "pay and you will get faster and more priority in downloading"

Hope that helps!
