whichever p2p i use transfer speeds hardly exceed 3-4 kbps.i have tried every p2p client that exists(every network ) but max i have got is around 5 kbps in ares.this surprises me bcoz surfing is really fast, also downloads from sites are amazingly fast(by my standards) .e-mule refuses to even connect to a server let alone download.seems like my isp has blocked just about all ports concerned with p2p2 networks.is there no getting around this...........i use a sygate firewall.(cable connection)

Perhaps you could give a few more details. For example: do you have a router and/or firewall? What types?

I have heard that some new modems can restrict bandwidth. I would recommend trying different ports if possible. Try without firewall and router and see if that makes a difference...I'm just guessing, since I have nothing to go on.

Perhaps you could test your speed?

If thats correct, I would be phoning my ISP and asking questions. What are you paying for if you only have 28 kbp down?

When running xp you can disable QOS which may speed up your bandwith, The best way is to download a program called XP antispy just google it free program......that may help a little........that download speed sucks.......UPLOAD still the same?

I also would like to hear what package you have with them, because you may be able to get a discount on something if you bitch enough!!

I wonder if they have a bandwith cap on certain ports? If so a socks 5 with an oddball port may just do the trick............I really think they have a cap on certain ports known to be used by p2p for instance my isp has all common ports associated with bittorrent, Direct Connect, gnutella totally blocked.............the last ones fine because gnutella sucks anyway.........Im gonna pm you a couple of proxies I know about

& eventually you will as well, just be very careful what you say to your isp, one of the reasons im helping you is that you can be an invaluable member to the community with that upload speed, what we have to do is straighten out your download! I recieved your pm and I cant believe all those proxies were down? Regardless I have alot more you can try.
