I was just wondering what is the newist version of Windows LongHorn is , can somone tell me ? I read that 4074 was the first beta, yet all I see anywhere is 4053. are the numbers goin backwards for some reason ? . Also does anyone know the offical date yet ? seems that the daye hasent changed all year and still they say mid-2006.
Cant wait till it comes out and Im somwhat tempted to do somthing wrong and try a beta, can somone give me good reason not to try a beta besides the legal factor ?
ohh and is the DRM talk true ? I mean will DRM be very heavy in Longhorn ? ( I probally sound stupid about DRM since I dont know much about it ).
OHH AND MERRY CHRISTMAS

A reason not to try the alpha besides the legal factor:
Random crashes.
Instability
none of your common used programs will work

longhorn is illegal to have inless you are a beta runner. beta remember that word because it basicly mean not working yet .

the last 32bit version of longhorn that was leaked to the internet was 4074. it's an alpha. the last 64bit version of longhorn that was leaked to the internet was 4083. it's also an alpha.
longhorn has not gone beta yet.
i do not recommend installing any of the alphas online because of their instability, and lack of driver support (obviously).
just keep using XP, it's a fine operating system.

whenn i ran it i didn't have many problems, i just used winxp drivers, and most things were fine. I was able to play the newest fps shooters at the time, get on the internet chat etc. everything i do now. Must be sensitive to hardware at this point. maybe i got lucky.

i'll just say that there are many outstanding defects, don't expect perfection :-B

If you really want to run Longhorn, I would suggest installing on a secondary machine if you can (I.e not the main computer you use, if you have more than 1)
Unless you're really into fiddling around with alphas, I wouldn't bother as it will probably be buggy and in my opinion it doesn't look very nice yet (like a mac gone wrong is the usual description I believe). Windows XP (with SP2 perhaps) will nearly definately be a nicer machine to use on a regular basis.

i've seen longhorn in action - it's really not that great right now. Basically, it's XP with a new theme...
but, if you really want to try it out and you don't have an extra computer lying around, grab a copy of VMware. In case you're not familar with it, it allows you to run another OS under an existing OS - kind of like an emulator, except that it's not emulating. www.vmware.com

they dont even have the glorified file system on it yet ( will they ever?) i've heard talk that they wont now, anyway it was supposed to be the most anticipated feature within the OS search faster organize better etc, the sidebar had a memory leak that's fixable last time i played with it i wasnt really impressed with the current alpha not much diffirent than xp in any usable way.
