would getting rid of realplayer help my computer? i've heard lots of bad things about it, like all the spyware it comes with, but when i run spyware scans, nothing shows up, so i was wondering if i should still keep it or not

If you go pro you won't have any problems with Real Player. in fact it is way better than Windows Media Player for both video and Audio if you don't subscribe to Napster. Real Player Plus is better than Music Match because it is better organized. So pay the $20 ir you can't find a crack for it. Heck $20 isn't bad and you get the updates. Just turn off the messenger service in preferences and that is all you have to do. There is no spyware when you go to the plus version.

Though there isn't any true to definition spyware in RealPlayer, it gets you with useless startup agents, a huge ugly interface, and annoyances enough to choke a slutty donkey.
You can try Real Alternative. It's basically the Real codecs without the RealPlayer. You'll still be able to use all types of Real files. It also comes packed with the optional Media Player Classic, which is really just an old hacked/optimized version of Windows Media Player. It's cool too.

While you're at it, get rid of quicktime and go with Quicktime Alternative.
