what does bandwidth mean on kLite ....sometimes it changes?

yes, bandwidth is basiclly a measure of speed of transfer on the internet. well its not actually speed, cuz data is being transfered at the speed of light. what it really means, is how much data can be moved. its kinda confusing though. ISPs will give you the bandwidth in kilobits. for example, 256kb/s cable. notice that the abbreviation for kilobits is kb. then there is kilobytes, which is how your computer, ftp sites, and many p2p programs measure speed. the abbreviation for kilobytes is KB (capital). just to clear things up, one kilobyte equals eight kilobits. for kazaa lite the bandwidth is in multiples of 2. more than likely,( if your on cable/dsl or lower) you will be sharing the maximum of your bandwidth at around 2-4 thousand kb/s. so if you want to download at a reasonable speed while uploading, keep the bandwidth under 1000. even less if your on a dial up. if ur on dial up then ull want to share the min. which is about 24 kb/s i believe. a dialup has a max speed of 53 kb/s so even with 24kb/s your sharing over 1/2 your bandwidth. thats all i can think of right now... im sure i missed somthing tho. so if you need any more clarification, let me know and ill try to help.

um i have cable and most of my p2p downloads are 200 KB\s + and from web sites i almost always get 600 KB\s + download speed.. i guess i'm special

I've downloaded 200KB/s from Kazaa, but it wasn't from one file, it was spread out among 4 or 5 files all from a guy on a college OC-3 or something.

And I think once for a split second I got 600 KB/s from some super fast website with download accelerator

@jonny5 - i also get those same sorta speeds - mine are nearly always between 5.4 and 5..8kbs.

Regular Kazaa has limits on the number of users one can download from simultaniously, i believe its 8. Kazaa lite removed that limit. I regularly get 500-700 KB/s with Kazaa lite. And BTW, get cable/dsl/sattelite and stop polluting p2p with dialup.

Is this with like a K++ Diet K type setup? Cause I get stuff in the 100-150Kb/s range but rarely see anything but a spike over 200Kb/s. This is on cable service which does 1300to 1900Kb/s on PCpitstops D/L bandwidth tests.

how the hell is 56k "polluting" p2p networks??? lets say youre getting a song from kazaa from 2 users. one is on dsl, giving you about 20KB/s. the other is on dial-up, giving you about 4kbs. total = 24KB/s. now what would happen if that 56k'er wasnt there? you'd only be getting 20KB/s instead of the 24. maybe you cant comprehend that 24 is bigger than 20, but it is. so the next time you type some smart-ass remark about how 56k sucks, maybe you should think about it before talking out of your ass.

Trainwreck: no, i dont think your getting screwed. see, pc pitstop measures in kilo bits, where as kazaa measures in kilobytes. there are 8 bits in a byte, so effectively, your getting 800-1200kb/s from kazaa, with spikes in the 1600's. your conn. blows mine out of the water now, (wasnt always that way) so dont worry about it. besides, cable fluctuates a lot.
