Hey all, Have ran into some .mdf & .mds. Was able to associate them with alcohol120% and dl'ed the shareware version. Looks like a really neat proggie, however, I aint got a clue how to use it now that I have it. Can anyone point me to a tutorial? I spent several hours dl'ing a large torrent and would like to use it. :mellow

convert the .mdf file to an ISO file using WinISO then burn it.

Nah, in Alcohol look on the left side of the app and click on "Image Burning Wizard". Under the text "Select an image file you would like to record" click "browse" and navigate to the .mds file you have. This is a small file that holds the burning parameters for the .mdf file (which is the cd image itself). It's a wizard, so it's kinda hard to mess up. Just make sure the .mdf file is named the same as the .mds, the extension notwithstanding. Make sure you have the appropriate media in your recorder, be it a blank CD or DVD, and let 'er rip. You shouldn't need WinISO for any of this, though it's a neat app too, and you might want to learn it since you're getting into disc images and such.

Have you looked at the help file? It seems to explain things fairly well with pictures. Also Virtual Drives can save a ton of blank cds.

it's the main program i use for virtual drives and "working around" copy protections (not that I'd ever break copy protections or anything ;) ) if it had the ability to make cds from scratch (i.e., custom music mixes, etc.), i wouldn't even see a need to use nero anymore

I'm still studying this virtual drive thing. I burned a couple CD's and installed the app but was unable to run it because it required the cd to be inserted. Since I have multiple CD's it did'nt work out. I figgure if I had burned it to a virtual drive the prog could have accessed it from there. I'm a slow learner but do get there eventually. Thanks all for the input.

If the program is asking you to insert the CD, then sometimes it needs to be inserted into the same optical drive you installed it from.
You don't really burn an image to a virtual drive with Alcohol, you "mount" them. Which is the same as pretending to put a CD in that drive.
If you're trying to run a backup of your game and it's asking you to insert the CD, then chances are it won't worked unless you use a "fixed executable". They are small files that replace the main executable in the game's directory, allowing the program to run with a backup CD or no CD at all. If that file is not included somewhere on the disc you have, look around at:

Alcohol 52% is a decent prog too.
