major problem, tried everything

i got broadband this week and have tried many torrent systems such as abc, bit comet etc and have tried kazaa etc and none of them will connect. it just sits saying is connecting but it never does. i'm on windows xp home edition and have tried turning the firewall offf and connecting but it makes no difference. i can get a torrent into my bittorrent but it just sits there and never downloads. Help!!!!!!!!!!!! it means i can't really get the advantage of broadband if i can't download stuff.

Does your ISP also offer firewall protection? If so, you'll need to open BitTorrent ports on your ISP's firewall settings!

Did your ISP send you a package, look in there for their firewall protection information or call them to ask how to config their firewall to open TCP & UDP ports for your applications!

naw they didn't tell me anything but trying to contact them is really expensive as they put you on hold for like an hour. can anyone tell me how to do it on my own??

They may have online support on their home page or maybe post who is your ISP so someone that using the same ISP can help you!

Are you using a router? Sounds like you are using a router that is not set up to forward ports. If not,some isp's also use transparent proxies. so check into that.

You need to post more info related o your ISP and broadband connection. Do you have a router>Kind exactly? What kind of modem did you get for your connection? I ask because some people are getting this messed up msn1000 combo modem/router but it's locked and you can't easily get into the settings to change anything. Bottomline the more info we have the better the help!
