I'm running windows XP, connected to a 1.5 MB cable modem (no router). Just wondering if anyone out there has a similar setup and if they can suggest any changes in the ABC settings that will optimise my download speed?
Cheers
P.S. I will still be nice and keep them open until my share rate reaches 1.5

I'm not a BT expert by any means, but I have ABC running about 24/7 and have a couple suggestions for you:
In Action-->Preferences-->Network you may want to change the default ports, as many BT sites and possibly your ISP have blacklisted them. Just pick a range of 50 ports nowhere near the default.
Get a nice healthy torrent going and start your upload speed at 3 KB/s. Keep doubling it and watch your download speed. When it gets to the point that your download speed starts to decrease then you know about what your max upload should be. start adjusting it by 1 KB/s until you find the speed that allows max download speed. For instance, I only get about 30 KB/s upload on my cable modem. I can upload about 22 KB/s before my total download speed starts to degrade.
Sometimes a particular torrent's download speed is affected proportionally by it's own upload speed. So to maximize your speed on that torrent just pause the rest and upload your max efficient speed on that one.
The most torrents I have going at once is usually 7, and that's if I upload the minimum 3 KB/s on each one. Otherwise I have no room to surf and other things that require internet access.
Also, make a circle of sacred rocks around your pc, then slay a chicken and dance in its blood. This will appease the download gods.

leave settings on default. make sure you limit your upload while downloading and you'll be set. Best way to see what works with your internet is to play with it until you find a setting where everything works at top capacity. you might also look in preferences and advanced and set your max connection below 60 as 60 or more may use a lot of system resources.

my recommendation is to go to the sourceforge page and download the most current daily beta version of 2.7.0... it is awesome, especially the most recent version.
Then set your upload to 80 percent of maximum upload speed... probably about 24KB/s...
That should be good.

Actually... I meant here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=88285
This is the page with all the betas and such... The file to which I am referring is:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/pingpong-abc/ABC-win32-vtest-11222004.exe?download
Some people have problems with the betas... but I think they are sweet :)
