I have found that once in a while I will find a song, and I will want to play the cd track over and over again. What is this called? Has there been any research into this? Sometimes I want to play a track a few times, once every few years I want to play a single track over and over again repeatedly.

What causes this? Is there any research into playing the same track over and over again?

The same phenomenon that led to the rise of Disco and Hip-Hop. Entire genres where one track is indistinguishable from the next. Kinda like Chinese water torture, actually.

All kidding aside, we derive pleasure from music. And we tend to flog a particular track until it no longer gives us pleasure. Other reasons for repeating the same track over and over is to learn the music so we can play it ourselves. I keep repeating riffs within a track and drive people nutz. Then I play said riffs until I get it right. By this time, I am alone in the house. By the time I get the tune worked out completely, only the dogs have been around for the whole process.

So hey, play it again til you no longer want to. Just normal human addictive behavior. Beer after beer, toke after toke, we repeat what makes us feel good. Or bugs the hell out of our neighbors.

I know what you mean. Sometimes I do the same thing with movies also. No idea what its called. Maybe OCD obsessive compulsive disorder.
