View Full Version : Downloading Lossless Compressed Albums??

OK - I admit that I'm a bit behind the curve on P2P issues. Mostly I want to download high quality full albums either in wav format or compressed using lossless compression.

Here is what I currently do: I use WinMx and search for mp3s that are 320 bit rate and that have the phrase "albw" in them. That gets me high quality mp3s that are assembled using a program called AlbumWrap, which puts all of the songs in an album into one file.

My problem is that I don't know how to use any other P2P program - and to do a search that will bring up high quality full albums. (most -P2P programs will allow you to search for mp3s, but, for example, albums encoded with Monkey's Audio lossless encoder have an ".ape" extension - and none of the P2P programs I know of would allow me to search for all files ending in ".ape".

Can anyone give me some ideas on how to do this?

much appreciated....

Well lawrence you r right about some p2p program's not carrying lossles compression files , i got mine from bit torrent site's , if you get lucky you'll fine some on the edonkey network but better try torrent's.

Winmx is one of the greatest programs to download full albums in high audio format... But since you don't want Winmx, then i would suggest Bitorrent... try http://www.torrentopia.com/ (torrentopia - bitorrent client that has a search engine inputed into the program) or search online for torrents and use a downloading bitorrent client like ABC (yet another bitorrent client), Bitornado, or anyother client that you can find that supports bitorrent link downloads.

ed2k is great for lossless music.

There are quite a lot of albums in the APE and FLAC formats there.

Flac is not perfect, but better than mp3.

Flac is not perfect, but better than mp3.

Cross-platform compatibility, reasonable compression efficiency, open source, replaygain support...not to mention lossless. If not perfect, then it sure is close.

Lawrence, have you hunted through usenet?
